It will be an act of the upmost stupidity and folly. Can't believe some folk are actually advocating we get rid.

2nd to Hassell, our best defender. Him and Nyatanga as the central defensive pairing looked far and away the best combination all season.

If he is gonna continue to break the rules set by the management and cause disruption I dont see what choice they have. I would like to see him stay for what he offers on the pitch but if he thinks he is running the squad then he needs to be released. Thought Reid also did very well in a few games with Nyatanga. Lets be honest, both Kay and Reid are only just up to this level.

100% with you on that. I wonder what matches some people watch, or possibly they are influenced by the sauce Kay has supposedly been supping.

And Hassell and Austin are too?

Talk was that the side were out in Brum Saturday night...so much for boozing rules

if he cant stick to the rules then theres no place for him. there needs to be respect for the manager, and if you break the rules you aint got any. at the most crucial time of the season he could have just stuck with the rules

if they all broke the rules then it would end up being a shambles

It's interesting to see what folk have taken that statement to actually mean. There are many interpretations, but whilst ever the manager's coming out with statements like " the booze ban is well and truly over" and "there may be a few hangovers at West Brom" I don't take the Club's abstinence policy all that seriously.

He told someone I know a few weeks ago that he'd signed a contract for Huddersfield.

A few weeks ago ? Is that legal ?

Agree. We should keep him

But as has been said before this should have been dealt with internally. He can pay a penalty for breaking booze ban, maybe even 2 weeks wages but then all can move on.

Not now the club decided to make 1/2 the facts public.

Can't they come to a pre-contract agreement after Christmas if a players contract is coming to an end?

Baffled. Kay's performances against Birmingham and Palace at home were not those of a player going elsewhere. His encouragement of the side against palace showed what that result meant to him.

If he does go elsewhere then good luck to him. It would seem if that's the case that we don't want players at the club who may need a little bit of man management.

Well,

it depends where the club is setting its sights for next season. if Kay, and Reid for that matter, were replaced by proven Championship quality centre halves, then perhaps its not such a wounder.

RE: Well,

Kay and Nyatanga. You won't beat that pairing without spending box office/Lucketti money.

The booze ban was lifted after we were safe. That is what baffles me most about Kay. The restrictions were only in place for a few weeks and he couldnt stick to it. Lets not forget he was missing from the team for a while after the Cardiff game too. Dont know exactly what went on but there must have been some reason for him being dropped for such a lengthy period. Like i say, I would like to see him stay but if he cant obey the managers wishes then the relationship will be unworkable and he may be a bad influence on other players.

Then we must bring in a better player as his replacement . In fact , that applies to most of our defenders . Last season we had the worst defence in the division , yet still finished fifth from the bottom . Were we to bring in better defenders , then mid table 'mediocrity' would be achievable . That would then be an improvement from a season long relegation battle . I'd call that steady improvement , but improvement nonetheless.
Were we to bring in better defenders .

Of the 30 players in our squad - In an ideal world I'd keep only 7.

Keep - Hassell, Togwell, Istvan, Howard, Kay, Devaney & Atkinson.

Send out on loan - Coulson, Heslop, Joynes, Harban, McGrory, Mattis & Potter.

Release - Colgan, Hecky, P Reid, Hayes, Austin, Williams, Richards, Letheren, McCann & Lucas.

Send back to clubs - R Jones, Rajczi, Eckersley & K Reid.

Therefore - we only need the following:
3 keepers.
A right back, two centre halves, two left backs.
A right winger, two central midfielders, two left wingers.
Three forwards.

16 decent players required + existing 7 gives a nice little squad ... with the 7 young lads out on loan, who can be re-called.

On the other hand - we could start next season with Paul Reid as captain & concede nearly 100 goals?
