... then we may as well start the restructuring of the team ready for next season. It should start with a good look at the youth team and then at the players who have contract time left. Those players should then be involved and any freeloaders should be sent back/dropped/contracts mutually terminated etc.... That's if we lose in my opinion.
The frustrating thing is, mathematically we're far from doomed. But anyone who's watched the team this season - even with the improvements Danny has made - can see that the spirit and concentration of this squad is woefully lacking. We can't play for 90 minutes (or 97 at Hillsborough) and we protect leads like a wanton child. I said it when Flicker was still in charge, but this squad really could do with scrapping (loan players excepted). I know that's not a realistic possibility until the season's end. But there is a lingering malaise which is King Keith's (and Flicker's) legacy. All this "really special people" carp. We'll struggle to move most of them on, so let's cancel some contracts if needs be. I'd maybe retain the youngsters too (or at least give them six months to establish their worth). But beyond that, the culture of the team needs to change.
If we lose on Saturday, the immediate response will be 'still 51 points to play for'. My worry is over the first 10 league games, how many times I've already heard 'didn't realistically expect to win'. Genuinely believe that squad have lost the way to win. Realistically I reckon we need at least 9 wins, and I can't see where they're coming from. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think it's already over. But if we don't win saturday (draw is no good) that will just hammer it home more.
