If he plays like that throughout the season we may as well just keep hold of him and see what happens. Like you say, we can't lose him for nothing, and he could well change his mind over the next year. Here's hoping.
BFC are experts at ripping their own fans off, so you'd think we'd find it easy to get as much money from a Premier League club as we could.
I agree. Should get at least £500k at a tribunal if not more if big clubs want him. He's been with us a while hasn't he?
But can we insist on a sell on fee at a tribunal. if not, then we better off selling him now for 1m with sell on clause. Rather than something similar without one in a years time
We don't have the same level of control at a tribunal and I believe the decision is final. We'd be better off negotiating our own deal, getting the best price possible and sticking in a good sell on clause.
If we keep him till Xmas and he plays like he did yesterday, would we not then get a hefty fee from one of those teams higher up the food chain who can't keep their money in their pocket? Or can it not work like that?
Ive always thought 1M was poor. Most prem clubs spend that on expenses in a week (flippant comment which probably isn't true). I read a very interesting sky sports article about how football transfers work which was very interesting and it said that the first 2-3 offers a club make are not serious ones and just intended to test the waters, unsettle the player and start the dialogue. Think of the recent John Stones and Raheem Sterling saga's! You do get the impression that on initially being offered 1M BFC go christ thats a lot of cash. What time on Saturday do you want him there. For me I would have asked for at least 2M and if they didn't want to pay it then fine he stays with us until the end of the season and we take our chances at a tribunal. Whats the worst that can happen? We may only get 500k so we lose 500k but we gain a player who is a good full back. Thats an important position that we have very little (if any) cover for. Btw as stated in a previous thread I do think he has had his head turned and will go, and for a maximum of 1M.
I have a suspicion that this will turn out to be a sale then loan back arrangement, probably with Man Utd. As far as the Premier League is concerned, he is still only potential and nowhere near ready to play. Man Utd seem happy for us to develop their young stars so why not Holgate. That would suit everybody. It's very hard to know what the fee should be. Unlike Stones I don't think there is any certainty he will progress, so maybe £1.5m (with sell on clauses) would be pretty good and would allow us to strengthen in this window and the next.
