......, not that I think we will, but it's not remotely beyond the realms of possibility - am I the only one who thinks that going on to win them and being promoted could end up being counter productive in the longer term?

Be good to get in the play offs but I definitely wouldnt want us to win them, we'd be a laughing stock as things stand. Another year or maybe 2 at this level would be best IMO but the play offs would be a good experience for them and also a confidence booster for next year

No you arent the only one - I would be happy with somewhere between 7th and 12th this year and then improve again next year and try to get promoted in a years time- a bit like Bristol city this time round. Playoffs would be great - and fortunately Dannys record in them means we should be safe from an accidental promotion if we did sneak in - Automatic is definitely beyond us this year

Couldn't disagree more. It would present a great opportunity on the back of increased ST sales and general interest, and if it comes off I only hope the club's Board mind our newly-acquired status better than they did from 2006/7 onwards.

Thing is IF we are able to sneak to playoffs that would mean we have put a pretty good run together and players we are hoping to shine (Winnall, Hourihane, Lalkovic, Scowen etc) must have shone. If that happens and then we don't go up I hope the board are strong enough in the summer to keep hold of them all bar any silly offers.

Also if we get in the playoffs and people are asked if they would like a trip to Wembley nobody is gonna say "yeah lets go to Wembley and lose"

That's very very true, and something I've just been thinking about myself!

I wouldn't mind. Would generate a great buzz. What I wouldn't want to see is us abandoning our long term approach and going back to short term fixes in order to try and stay in the championship again. I'd still consider it part of the building process no matter how we did in the league above.

Don't be daft, we wanna go up as soon as possible, it will just become harder to compete every year otherwise, especially if Leeds came down. Then there's the club that plummets from the Prem to L1 every few years to contend with.

If we managed to get into the playoffs I'd definitely want us to win them. I'd much rather us be in the championship than this league but at the same time I'd hope we'd learned lessons from our last stay in the second tier because another yearly struggle with relegation is not going to do us any good.

Where abouts in the league were we at this stage the last time we went up?

No, you are not the only one - I'd hate to go back to watching us fail to compete every week in the championship. If / when we go up I want us to do so on a roll, on the back of a stand out season, so we can take it into the following season and hopefully compete, not limp in almost apologetically and crash and burn again. I do see the argument that the longer we leave it the harder it is going to get, and I also agree that if we got to Wembley I wouldn't be setting off down hoping we would lose. But I think that, when we got home, had a day or two to get over the disappointment, I'd probably be relieved.

I look at the season Rotherham had last year where they were fantastic and really over achieved on the back of a team all clearly pulling together, and they still look like they will struggle to stay up. Its getting so hard in that league, it would be a disaster to start in the championship with a bunch of players still not quite looking like the finished article for league 1 never mind the championship, who managed to sneak promotion just because of the poor standard of this league. No, I'll take another year at this level, thanks.

But its all pie in the sky anyway - We've won 2 games on the bounce, that's all. This time last week, the talk among the more pessimistic was still of relegation to L2.

IIRC we were pretty consistent and spent most of the season hanging around the top six without ever really threatening the automatic promotion slots.

If we'd have had Chopra that year instead of the one before we'd have strolled the league. Missed a goalscorer.

Let's not get carried away. It's the first time all season we've had back to back wins. A good run now would be ideal but for me, a top 10 finish would be one hell of a result. I still maintain we'll finish 12th.

On the flip side, we need a bit of perspective. It's been a quiet week on here with us winning, tomorrow we play top of the league, away at a place we get very little joy from. Let's hope the knives don't come back out if we don't get a result.

Any sort of result tomorrow and a win on Tuesday though and things are looking very rosy.

It's a difficult one.Obviously none of us enjoyed being in a position where we comfortably lose week in week out, but is the ultimate goal not to be as high up in the pyramid as possible?

Regardless of whether we needed to drop a level to rebuild or not, I can't see going back up hindering the club overall as long as we maintain the same long term recruiting ethic that Danny is trying to instill. The only difference would be that we would have more money and a championship status to offer the players we want.

    Very sensible approach.
However, we DID win consecutive league games when we beat Rochdale & Bradford City, then a few weeks later against Sheffield United & Colchester United.

I'll be honest I'd love us to go up but I'd also be really happy not to be in a relegation battle come the end of the season.....tho job wise Danny might prefer to be in a upper league 1 position rather than in a relegation battle in the championship :)

Why worry? Accept that a club of our size is going to be a yo-yo team, primarily between second and third tiers and occasional visits to the fourth.
