And probably more especially if Gillingham lost to Captain Von Trapp..... does Saturday become a bigger game than the JPT Final?
I reckon so. I'd take a draw between Gillingham and Rochdale tonight so long as we win. It'd pull us level with the former and put Rochdale further back. Win tonight and the top six is on. I do think we'll need to win away, though, somewhere.
If Gillingham don't win tonight I can't see them getting two wins from their last three games. I think 2 wins and a draw from our last four games might just be enough.
No. In 10 years time everyone will have forgotten about the Blunts game but not the JPT Final. We're in the record books for all time for that win. Saturday is just one of 4 remaining games. When we get to the stage where a win will take us into the play-offs then that game becomes the most important game - that won't be Saturday. If results go right for us tonight i.e. we win and Gills lose then the top 6 is in our own hands. Obviously with 3 games to go we'd probably need to win a couple but Blunts are no more important than Colchester or Wigan.
Ive already forgot about the JPT. Winning at Brammall Lane on our way to going up would go down in folklore. Much much bigger.
Agreed. I think 7 points will be enough if Gillingham lose tonight. If that is the case, I'd be more worried about Rochdale.
You've already forgot it yet mention it in your post. Good un. No way would a win at the Blunts go down in folklore. Does anyone remember the score against them last time we went up or if we even played them? I can't even remember the result last time we played them at Bumhole Lane, whereas ask any Barnsley fan in 10 years time the result of the JPT and everyone will remember.
Every match since the JPT including tonight have been bigger for me because league is more important so we can get millions of pounds back through promotion and have much bigger games every single week.
Games against teams who are so massively advantaged that we have little chance of competing. I'm not saying we won't compete and I desperately want us to go up but I wish people would stop belittling the jpt win. We've been trying to win trophies for 130 odd years. That was our second. For god's sake enjoy it!
We won it because we were in it due to underachieving from the level we have become accustomed to during our whole history. We don't know what chance we have of competing. Even in this era of silly money being around there are still examples in the top two leagues like Blackpool, Burnley, Leicester etc who can overachieve.
I can, one of the best away days of my life. Super John Hendrie scoring late, leaving us top at christmas 1996. The away end went mental, back to Barnsley for a rite neet. Never forget it. Sure wembley was great, not as good as a meaningful win away at a sheffield rival. If we would have lost at wembley, it still would have been a good day out.......but theres nowt good abart gettin dicked by a Sheffield side...especially when theres something at stake.
Don't think much of that is valid...Leicester are a big city club who have been in the top division for most of the last 60 years. Burnley despite being considered well run had to shoulder big losses and debts to get there...8m loss and 12m debt prior to promotion. Blackpool had a brief moment in the sun like we did....and now it's all gone t**ts up. Hardly comparisons for our purported underachievement.
Leicester: 2nd to us for most years in the second tier. Burnley: Small crowds and yes debt but small in comparison to alot. Blackpool: What's happened there wouldn't happen at us.
What a day. I was there being corporately entertained and, in addition to winning the sponsors draw, a lovely set of kitchen knives presented to me by a very ungracious Mike McDonald (Blunts chairman), I also had Hendrie to score first and us to win 1-0 on the fixed odds.
