Would you have confidence in yourself and your team if your manager constantly set up your team to 'counter' the opposition rather than to pose them questions? Does this not suggest a lack of belief in you and your colleagues? Hardly likely to help you succeed is it? I wonder if Swansea or anyone else for that matter would prefer JCR on the wing or in the middle of midfield against them? Why is it impossible to play 2 wingers and be successful? I've seen Barnsley teams do it many times. Reading and Wolves do it. Man United do it. One of our best performances this season was at home to Sheffield Wednesday - JCR and Devaney tearing their full backs to pieces. JCR also ripped Donny to bits - from the wing. This just shows a lack of belief and faith in our central players in my opinion. Despite Colace and Anderson being two of our better players.
Davey set out (and he actually said so himself) to turn JCR into Howard's replacement. How absolutely brilliant. Ruined a genuinely class winger who, until November when he was given the free role, was playing out of his skin. Paper qualifications aren't the be all and end all.
I have some sympathy with SD on that one Don't forget that AR did a similar thing with Brian Howard (moving him in from the wing) because we weren't getting enough goals from midfield. As a by-product of this, he was vilified for releasing Jacob Burns - who never looked like scoring. That now looks a like a masterstoke. Davey is in a more deperate situation, because he is in a league higher and none of his forwards look as though they are going to produce the goods. However, when something is not working, SD doesn't seem to be prepared to try an alternative...
Spoke to Andranik tonight. He says were much more dangerous with 2 out and out wingers. Ala Hammill, JCR, Disco.
Wouldn't you also want to give 110% to avoid playing in L1 next year, or ... ... 10% to get released and away from Davey and his magical tactics?
