John Oliver does the EU. Brilliant in every way.... http://www.beyondthejoke.co.uk/cont...er-nails-brexit-campaign-aid-gerard-depardieu
And in other referendum news today... Dabid Beckham has announced he is in favour of remain.. Cameron is happy saying that "there are celebrities and then there are celebrities"..!!??. Well!! How can I have been so wrong?? If DB says that so then it must be right. I should change my decision immediately! Silly me!! FFS! What is with the celebrity bit? also, Billionaire investor Soros says he and many millionaires will make lots of money should we Brexit ..so we should remain. Eh??? Surely, if that is the case he would want us to leave! Regarding the OP You could equally watch 'Brexit -the movie' (if you can be ar*ed to stay the course that long) and reinforce the opposite opinions. Supporters of both sides (including myself) are equally guilty of confirmation bias. As for the slap Gove. Seriously!!??? (Although I can think of a few teachers that would have liked to do so when he was Education Secretary).
Re: And in other referendum news today... Ahh, but if you actually watch the Oliver video, he rips that a new one as well. The 'pillow' stats he debunks are a joke...
Re: And in other referendum news today... I wasn't too keen on the guy doing the video but the pillow stats were brilliant!
And if you've got 12 minutes odd A positive view of Britain post EU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzNj-hH8LkY&feature=youtu.be
Yes I accept that a lot of Brexit propoganda has been absolute b*llox, but neither side has been truthful. There are many things that Osborne and Cameron and 'Big business leaders' (at other times referred to by the press as Fat Cats) have said that are also b*llox. Frankly I don't believe 99% of what either side state publicly. Both sides cherry pick the opponents statements and ignore the truths and highlight the lies and exaggerations One thing though. John Oliver works for HBO in turn owned by Time Warner and is playing to an American audience. The content of his amusing (And admittedly sometimes factual ) rant is geared to them and reflects the American Government's and his employer's perspective and standpoint. Don't forget, just one example, America still desperately wants TTIP on their terms, In fairness you could do a similar feature on claims made by Remain. I find it funny though (and this is not aimed in any way at you) that some people on here, when confronted with posts advocating Brexit, criticise the poster for being wholly biased and not reflecting a balanced view and then post one sided propoganda supporting their viewpoint. I have spent a lot of time trying to get past the propaganda (mainly failing in that) and based my opinions on what has happened in Europe particularly in Greece France and Italy, and using my understanding of Economics mainly Keynsian ( anti austerity) and my belief the EU is a failing organisation anyway and come to the conclusion I have. You have the opposite view based on your experiences. Fair enough. I am not trying to belittle your viewpoint. Neither of us, like the so called experts, really know what will happen either way.
Re: And if you've got 12 minutes odd I stuck with it to the bit where he said that when we joined the eu economies comprised 38% of the world total and now it's 17. Implying the major european economies were failing because of the EU. Nothing to do with the massive explosion of the Indian, Chinese and other far eastern economies in that period of time biting into that share of the world economy then?
Re: And if you've got 12 minutes odd I wasn't aware we didn't trade with China and India already. I could have sworn we did or all those trade delegations going off over there must be on a right jolly.
Re: And if you've got 12 minutes odd Hmm I wonder how many people will watch that. I have said for ages the EU trade bloc is more like a Trade Block fortheUK given that we have commonwealth and ex- Empire world market we are unable to take advantage of. Interesting that he included the Junckers anti democracy statement. This is one of the few pro Brexit speeches (tellingly from an MEP) where it is difficult to point out, putting aside any personal opinions from the speaker any statement that is not factual. Of, course it will not change the opinions of anyone on here who has already made their mind up based on the assumptions that EU supports the working man and immigration policy of Brexit is racially motivated.
Re: And if you've got 12 minutes odd We DO have agreements to trade with countries outside the EU but only if they are ratified by the EU. The MEP was oversimplifying his argument somewhat. In fairness, we do have more countries that the EU allows us to trade with than most other member countries but depending whether you are remain or Brexit the advantages or disadvantages of this become blurred . The URL below gives one side of the argument and the CBI another which you could pull of the internet. I have copied the URL to the non-CBI as they have an definite remain agenda, and a far as I am aware this is an academic paper from a respected author - Patrick Minford CBE (b. 1943) is a British macroeconomist who is Professor of Applied Economics at Cardiff Business School, Cardiff University, a position he has held since 1997. He was Edward Gonner Professor of Applied Economics at the University of Liverpool from 1976 to 1997. http://patrickminford.net/wp/E2016_1.pdf
