I'll say it. I'd like Rob Knowles banned from this site

If he wants to be part of this community and contribute to it then he is more than welcome. But I am not in the slightest bit comfortable with someone just monitoring this community, ignoring questions and suggestions but responding on his own site to information he believes to be erroneous. To be honest, it gives me the creeps. If feels like big brother. That is just my opinion. What does everyone else think?

No idea what's going off, but enough is enough.

    RE: Just doing his job?

His job as far as I'm aware is not to monitor this site for mistakes, misquotes, irregularities.

Surely we'd all benefit from more focus on the actual BFC site?

    I don't know about that

Maybe it is. In my opinion his time would be used far more constructively if he set up a facility on his web site that would allow us to purchase tickets and club merchandise. Even if it is part of his job to monitor this BBS, that is no reason for us to allow him to continue doing it. As I said, that's just my opinion, and if others in this community are happy with him monitoring us then we should keep him. But if the majority are not then I think he should be banned.

If he used the forum to communicate with the fans, raise the profile of the club, clarify issues etc. then I'd agree with you. However...

Be part of the community and contribute when asked in the right way or chuff off...

As much as I dont like the big brother style monitoring, and teddy throwing when there is anything less than complimentary, banning them does bother me. I dont want the big brother thing to carry on, but fear that if we ban them it will get worse. They will think we have something to hide, and will find ways round the ban such as anonymous proxies etc. I would rather we tried to re-build the relationship, unfortunately I think it would take them to make the first move which I can't see happening.

    This is silly.

Banning Rob Knowles is stupid and quite unpoliceable - if someone wants to read the posts as a guest they can do so from a different PC unnoticed.

    As far as I'm aware

The club has a static IP address, so when he's at work that IP could be blocked. Of course, he could use an anonymous proxy to get around that, but why would a person who never contributes go to such lengths to be part of a community that he appears to have little regard for? Why would we want someone like that watching us?

I went to school with Rob Knowles. Kingstone, 89-94. Which is of precisely no interest to anyone. All this banning stuff is daft. We should all get together and have pizza and a video and we'll soon settle our differences. Rob's house, half 7 on Friday. I'll bring Twister.

he would go that far because at the moment it seems to bepart of his job description! So it is totally unpolicable (spelling?)

Surely the best way to deal with this is to ignore it

If they are hell bent on watching, as some people seem to think, then they will. Why waste time and effort trying to block them ?

Membership only posts, blocking unpopular posters / non-posters it's too controlling. Is the content of this site such dynamite that it is necessary to protect it ?

I don't think so, it's just a BBS. No matter how people dress it up it's not important enough for people to get worked up about.

PS. I'm only writing this to avoid doing work.

Not a contributing member of this community, doesn't use the board for anything other than keeping tabs on us. If there was someone following you around all day or eavesdropping your conversations in the pub you'd tell them to sling their 'ook -why is this different?
