Before I start........let me just say that I've always said that there should be a statue of Pat outside the Ponti in recognition of the fine work Pat has done to save the club. But after listening to the interview he gave in the No 7 I think there is quite a few things to be concerned about. 1) If you owned a garage with just 30 cars in it and someone asked you for the price of a car - do you think you would be able to know the price of each of those cars? And if you sold that car for £2,000 and then realised the car was actually worth £10,000 would you feel aggrieved and consider quitting? Because I would. If you multiply this by 1000 - because that's what happened with John Stones. How Pat Cryne has been able to build a company that was valued at £1 BILLION - God only knows. All I can say is that he must have been very lucky in business and employed exceptional people. 2) After the John Stones debacle - Pat recons that a scoring system has now been introduced at the club. But why has it taken so long? Can fans remember why Pat gave Simon Davey the managers job - because Simon came to the interview with a port folio of each player at the club. So how was such a good presentation and system that could be used for the future soon forgotten about? 3) For years the fans have been crying out about the sale of our better players for next to nothing - especially when compared to our rivals such as Sheffield United who always get top dollar ( e.g. Jordon Slew £1 Million). We now know why - no one at the club knew the value of anything at the club except probably the price of the football shirts hung in the shop. We can only assume from this that Pat Cryne has money to burn. But in saying that, you usual find people that have money don't throw it about. 4) Barry Taylor is a member of the board of directors because he knows when and how things can go wrong. I know a better candidate who would have got more for each of the players sold in the last 13 years and know how to invest that money back into the club. He definitely would have used the £8 Million, lost though the Stones deal, to invest into the club. His name is John Dennis. 5) How many times did Pat say 'my son'? In my opinion Pat was far too protective of his son who is a grown man. He should have said that what has been suggested about his son interfering in the club is a lie and then left it at that. Listening to the interview it could quite easily be heard that Pat has too much emotional involvement with the club. In my view Pat, for his sake and the club, should step back from the decision making and just rely on Ben and Maurice to make the decisions. 6) The emotional cloud Pat is generating was then underlined with his first and only visit to the dressing room where he went on to tell the players about the 1912 cup final and the miners strike............no wonder the players looked at him with cold fish eyes. Doesn't Pat realise that these young guys are only interested in what yer average other young guys find important e.g. drinking and women etc. I found that part of the interview so sad and frankly embarrassing. In conclusion, I would like to thank Pat greatly for what he has done - but the sooner he can find a buyer for the club then the better it will be for all concerned
Great whinge but nothing constructive about it. The man has put millions of his own money into our club and not thrown the towel in during his ill health. Without him we'd probably have no club! Yes he may not be the best person in the world to run a football club, but lets face it who do we really expect to buy the club!
..................'who do we really expect to buy the club' We don't know - because we are never informed of who has tried to buy the club. All we do know is that when it was up for sale there were a few interested parties.
Would we rather have someone with no allegiances to the club, or a life long fan? Clearly the latter, doubt there are many of those with pockets deep enough to keep us going.
We had this discussion last week. You may or may not have noticed but we won away at S****horpe tonight for the first time since 1978 in the league.
I've been away on holiday for over two weeks and although I heard the interview I've waiting until I got back to post an opinion about it. One swallow doesn't make a summer - and one away win at Scunny definitely doesn't solve the problems at Barnsley Football Club. And although I'm very much appreciative of what Pat has done for Barnsley Football Club and in doing so the whole town, I still feel that things would be better if Pat sold the club outright or went into partnership with another party - he definitely needs to let Maurice and Ben make the on going decisions at the club no matter what happens.
Is the garage your analogy? Because cars have a pretty standard value, you'd have looked in Parkers and slapped a price tag on it.
