5th defeat of the season but it was a real low point for me. Yeah we conceded 4 and 3 at Shrewsbury and Sunderland, but at least they played well. Today I saw us play against a team that just worked harder and banged the ball forward. No skill, no great passing ability - just more combative. We had no answer when it came to overcoming it. We passed sideways, back, into touch and to their players. Very poor today, and with some decent teams coming up, it's time for them to ask themselves, are we going to step up a gear, or fade quietly away?
I’m also normally positive but with the midfield deciding to go awol or hide away and fullback positions up for lottery it’s hard to stay so . I was confident we could get an auto place this year as we have a good footballing team on our day but we’re depending on whether midfield will turn up an put the effort in or not . We have a good a forward line but if they don’t score it’s a lottery if midfield want it. Commentator today on Dee dar was astonished that on one of our many corners the ball was allowed to bounce twice in their six yard box before going out . I was frustrated at this as not only was it sh it defending by them it was even shi tier attacking by us .
Square pegs, round holes. Brown at full back when we have a young full back on the bench, and central midfielders playing down the flanks.
Never been a fan of it. Play the best full back you have at full back and so on. Shoehoring players in never really works out
Probably so but it shouldn’t stop the effort imo, The .Portsmouth game will be telling imo and will be a pointer to our season . If we put the effort in and lose that’s fair enough but if we surrender like the wimps we have shown on certain games it’ll be a long road back imo I though after the Sunderland game we had turned a corner after a great performance after a spell of headless chicken time , the way we took the game to them was heartwarming even though we lost. I can take a defeat but not capitulation Replying to fitzy tyke
Wouldn't say the effort wasn't there today. We just didn't have the quality on the ball to step up a gear. We seemed rushed and rattled by their pressing.
Fair enough I can only go on commentary today I thought the same critique could be said against the Man City boys team
The same players have also played well and given us some big wins and entertainment. January could have a big bearing in where we end up.
Our opponents today wernt great they kind of didnt have to be but they were aggresive where they had to be and played in and around the back of us.....if all the other teams employ these tactics (and i know it hasnt been the first time) we will become unstuck....again. My girlfriend lives in fareham...and went to watch pompy today....and was full of praise....they sound....very well organised.
All fluff and no finish today I'm afraid. I was glad to see it for myself today to judge how far we have to go. A number of things struck me: 1. Midfield got in each others way - far too close together made the game area compressed and easy for Wycombe to block and spoil 2. Too many passes to go nowhere, sideways and backwards 3. Threatening wing play non-existent 4. Not enough bodies in the box when we did get down the flanks and get a cross in 5. No running at defenders and taking them on 6. Too few second balls won 7. Not enough talking between players I didn't see a team of promotion hopefuls today. No one seemed to really want it. I haven't seen Dougall in the flesh but I think we are missing him. And, I have to say, like others have, that on that performance, what does Behre do? I recently rewatched our play-off games against Walsall - if only we had Isgrove fit and in that kind of 'run at them' mindset. I was disappointed by our performance today but we have clearly got some technically good players, it was all neat and tidy stuff - just ineffective. Seem to have lost purpose, directness, threat and finish.
i agree...we need pace....loafs more pace and some nouse.....Dougall.....im a massive fan but Shrewsbury did what wycome did tiday and i thought he was ineffective in that game.
Thing is Fitzy. They then put the young full back on at full back and move Brown Forward. I hope that wasnt a tactical change? Any news on why Woodrow went off?
Not seen Dougall yet but I agree that we look ordinary when teams come at us and close us down. Today I thought the midfield passing was very unadventurous - usually to the nearest player, didn't look wide enough. Having said that, neither wide player did much with the ball when they did get it - until Thiam came on - he actually looked like he wanted to take them on directly.
I don't think Dougall would have changed that game. As Geddis said, Shrewsbury nullified him, as did Charlton, he should never have gone to that middle east training camp! To many players not up for it today. They had a full squad who were completely committed to not losing and hoping to sneak a win. Which they did. Fair play to em.
Not been but looks like we've gone retrograde into the side that dropped out of the Championship. Young men learning there trade .Stamina and focused is something to be gained with experience.Need an experienced player on the pitch to lift the young guns .Remember young age players .
He was badly injured in an awful tackle after barely 15-20 minutes and was subbed off. He’d had a rough few challenges prior to that too. He struggled to effect the game after that. Poor...
