And this is the last I'm going to say on the issue but it looks to me like a massive success on the multi-cultural front. Far from it being an event only the Asian community get any sort of benefit from and a hotbed of racial exclusion, as intimated by some posters, it looks like a wonderful example of people from different backgrounds getting on and learning from each other: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_pictures/6737997.stm It also proves that there's some right, proper munters live in Shitfield but we already knew that...
Furthermore... I wouldn't kick Aishwarya Rai out of bed for eating crisps... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6737805.stm
It had to be said, mate... I find pictures like that quite heart warming, to be honest, especially when you consider some of outpourings of hate that have occured recently...
RE: It had to be said, mate... We've all got some axe to grind. Be it racist or whatever ? But folk i always believe have a right to their opinions. And I'll bet all those with racial issues good or bad wouldn't kick her outta a bed (Aishwarya Rai ) .... (jadore) .... Or would they?? Got to remember though there's a lot of.... (bummers).... On here .... (babyhaha) ....errr so i've been told ................................................ (yikes) ....
Stevie., thats just what I have been trying to say but I dont think it came across like that. If I have given anyone the impression I condone Racism, I want to make it clear now I abhore the name calling and bigotry seen on here in the last few days.
Not to mention the global publicity for the region and the income generated http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/6738007.stm
RE: It had to be said, mate... I wouldn't know, mate! Some self confessed trannies though, eh?! You would, though, without a shadow of a doubt:
Heartwarming stuff.
At the end of the day we're all just people and we can muck along together just fine.
The world would be so much better if interfering know-it-all politically correct busybodies would just shut their gobs and let us all get on with it.

We've all got a bit excitable these past few days... And sometimes it's a tricky issue to talk about without coming over either bigotted or naive depending on the side you pick. As I've said in previous posts I think racism is a word used a bit too often at times so I try to avoid its use just 'cos someone says something I don't agree with. There are some out and out racists on this board but most posters just have opinions - there's a difference...
Correct, at the end of the day, deep down, we are all the same
RE: Stevie., thats just what I have been trying to say Oh mark i wouldnt get too concerned about it mate .... (Y) .... I would a thought by your past postings that folk on here know your a good guy also imo' A very funny one to boot . .............Its all good ........... (nodding2fingers) ....
RE: It had to be said, mate... .... ( ....Yeah bugger ....i'm off sunday afternoon sessions i love em .... (raiseaglass) ....

Good on yer!
Seriously, I do firmly believe that the PC brigade, by constantly highlighting how different we are, are actually divisive and a cause of trouble.
We aren't that different, as Laura so cleverly (as ever) points out.

I agree... Partially - I think the emphasis on diversity rather than our similarities is not entirely productive. I think a handful of white, liberal types take it upon themselves to "defend" the sensibilities of minority groups without cause or invitation and, most of the time, when those minorities are indifferent to the cause the liberals are championing! However, I think the principles of PCness are sound but, as Rosco once pointed out, they are more to do with correctness than political correctness. People should already know that referring to the population of an entire continent with a catch-all, derogatory term is offensive and, in modern times, unacceptable - it's a shame we need to rely on PCness to highlight this! Not only that, British people have let their own standards slip over the years. We've witnessed our own culture and communities dismantled, not by immigration and anti-British conspiracies, but by greed, selfishness and a disregard for education and decency and many of "our own" have been quite happy to clamber over everyone else to get to the top of the pile. I'm a school teacher and I witness, first hand, kids growing up with a totally different set of values and standards to the ones I, and most people I know, had. PCness can't be blamed for everything but I think some people, as much as they loathe it, would panic if it wasn't with us 'cos then they'd have to find something else to blame and maybe then take responsibility for their own actions, beliefs and morality... The last part wasn't directed at you, by the way, just my musings...
RE: I agree... Couldn't have put it better myself - particularly regarding the decline in standards of behaviour and the almost total lack of respect for others.
Which is all Thatcher's fault!

Well, considering the raging debates on these pages over the past few days... ...I was trying to be diplomatic and leave politics out of it but you are, of course, 100% correct! It all ties in: society, standards and patriotism - if you believe, as Thatcher did, that the individual is supreme over society and any means to succeed and "get ahead" are justified by the ends, how can you claim to be patriotic which is, by its nature, the partaking in, celebration of, and obedience to (within the law and accepted moral standards) society?! Basically, you can't claim "I'm alright, Jack" while bemoaning the state of society...
