What a complete waste of an afternoon that was.

However else it is dressed up, the simple matter is
    1. Crewe were a poor side. We couldn't beat them.
    2. Crewe offered very little as an attacking threat and scored two goals.
    3. Barnsley had a lot of possession and could only score one goal

Barnsley deserved to lose today in my opinion. If a better side is not willing to really go for the jugular against weak opposition then that side deserves all it gets. The team were simply not good enough given the tactics/formation to break down and hammer a very weak side which was, presumably, low on confidence. Man for man, Barnsley had the better players but were, for me, nullified by their own tactics. There was never enough of a threat in the final third even given the possession. Players were not willing/not instructed to make runs on all but a few occasions. Attacks therefore tended to be pedestrian. There were, apart from rare occasions, never enough men forward to give support to the striker. There was a tendency to 'sit' on the ball far too long, even go backwards on occasions, rather than press home the technical advantage which the players did have.
All in all watching football like this is extremely unpalatable and I simply don't want to witness it. Why on earth should I go to a football match with some semblance of a feeling of contentedness but emerge 2 hours later feeling completely demoralised and down? There is no logic for me in that. If I hadn't have gone today I would still have been feeling ok because I would not have witnessed a completely ineffectual, toothless performance against a team which should have been hammered.
I'm not doing that to myself again for the foreseeable future

No doubt I'll pop down again at some point in the future, but what worries me is that I think I'm a good fan and yet I don't want to go anymore. If I'm like this and others are like this then it's not healthy.

You get the impression reading this board that there are lots of us feeling exactly the same way, and it's only habit that keeps us going.

For us, its a good few hours in the pub catching up, and then off to the game to bore ourselves rigid. I am not sure why we don't just stay in the pub - we've talked about if often enough.

I'm getting close. I've knocked away games on the head and unless things change I'm not sure how long before home games go the same way. I've never been so bored watching Barnsley.
