Yes, it was a cracking atmosphere, yes the Red Army had a good day out, there was plenty of humour and wit (shame some of the stewards didn't show it though!) and I suppose you could argue that it was our last game of the season, nowt to play for and we'd survived a season in the Championship. On the other hand however was the fact over 2000 Reds' fans made the time and effort to travel to the Hawthorns, spending a deal of dosh in the process, a fair proportion of those fans have done the same for all our other 22 away league games this season as well, and to be honest they deserved a lot better than what they got on the pitch from those players in the yellow shirts. I can understand folk saying what does it matter? - we're still in the Championship - and it's fair comment, but why shouldn't the Reds put in 100% effort and commitment (like the fans do) until the final kick of the season? They certainly didn't do that this afternoon and I still can't figure out whether West Brom were simply outstanding or we were simply sh*te. They looked like scoring every time they came down our end in the second half, and quite why we had Disco and Kyel Reid playing next to one another on our right flank mid-way through the first half with nobody on our left just mystifies me. In a similar vein, why should we accept and be pleased that 5th from bottom is good enough? Surely we should set our aims higher than that? Did Colchester say 4th from bottom was enough - did they heck as like! - and they operate on a far tighter budget and smaller crowds than we do. Of course expectations have to be set at a reasonable level but I honestly think we should have set ours a little higher. As for this afternoon, well I think the club owe the travelling fans an apology. Davey's post-match comments would indicate that won't be forthcoming so here's a suggestion for Gordon. How's about offering all those producing a ticket-stub from today's game a 10% discount on their next season's season tickets? Can't see that happening either, but it would be a nice gesture. Thankfully the fans made it all bearable today (because it was certainly humiliating on the pitch), what with the fancy dress, the witty chants and the banter with the Baggies' fans. Even they finally accepted our humour when, 10 minutes from the end we all started chanting 'Will you score a goal for us?' and they applauded!!! In the way of MotD2 - one Good and one Bad today - the Good - Kevin Phillips' 2nd goal, an absolute cracker! The Bad - the steward at the end of the game who stopped Ozzie throwing his shirt into the away fans, after Howie and Hassell had done the same with theirs. Jobsworth - sorry, it was totally unnecessary. Also thought it was disappointing that only those three came down to the fans to applaud their support - the remainder stayed near the centre of the pitch clapping us, although that may have had something to do with the Baggies' fans running onto the park. Finally, another observation for Gordon - the Baggies were advertising their ST prices on the big screen for next season - 25% discount on this season (£349/£399/£449) and £49 - yes, £49 for U-16s. Also pay nowt until December if you purchase your ST on the Baggies Mastercard. I realise West Brom are still receiving the Prem. parachute payments so I'm not advocating we do the same as them, but something along those lines wouldn't go amiss, especially the junior ST price! Reckon we've seen the last of Nardiello..
