this is my town, not perfect, but my town and if you don't like it living in my town then feel free to go live elsewhere, the people of this town are proud, hardworking, honest, funny, caring and loyal and I'm proud to be part of it's makeup. for those of you that this week have stated they are ashamed to be from Barnsley or indeed Yorkshire then may I suggest you pack up your things and move, you will not be missed.
Well said that man (clap) I am sometimes ashamed of some of my fellow Yorkshiremen, I am often ashamed by our government and the people who hold power in this country but I am never ashamed of my roots and where i come from. Barnsley is a great town. always has been and always will be. I'm proud to call it my home.
A number of them (including the most vociferous and hysterical of the last couple of days) ...
...don't even live here and never have.

I didn't bother pulling it to bits, I just moved out of there as fast as possible. It's had nothing going for it for years and after this weeks shameful display I'm glad not to live there anymore. Sad times really when all that I come back to Barnsley for is the football and see my family.
Well Said That Man The 'Holier Than Thou' lot on here like it think they are better than everyone else.
Re: I\'m sick to the back teeth of some people on here pulling my town to bits......... wel said. from the heart
There was a time when I would defend Barnsley to the hilt and I still love the town and would never deny that Barnsley is where I come from, but to say that the people who live here are ALL hardworking and honest is naive to say the least. Having said that, the only people who should be able to criticise the town are the folk that live here.
The fact is... wherever you go on this planet, from Barnsley to London to New York to Tokyo to Cameroon to Stevenage, 95% of people living there are complete and utter c{R-TAPE LOADING ERROR}
FACT:- 4.5 % of the electorate voted BNP Yes only 4.5 % I don't call that good support in the present political climate. Blown up out of all proportion by the media ( but hey why let the facts get in the way of a bit of Barnsley bashing. ) More worrying is the fact that 70% of the electorate didn't vote. I wouldn't think that if any of those vote next time not many of them would vote BNP. The BNP vote only reached this level because of the present political climate which WILL change before the next election. Remember a week is a long time in politics.
