using one now!-good after sales-fixed a noisy fan in3 days-you might want to look at paying for speedier repairs?
Had a Dell Dimension desk top for about 4 years plus Inspiron 1150 lap top for almost 2 years - no problems with either. If I ever have to buy another pc it would almost certainly be Dell.
mines ok but wot the hell do i know? It hasnt got enough sockets on the back to plug things into - thats all i know.
No probs with mine, but the tech support is useless if you need it. Better tech support on here! Had mine since 2000 - will be replacing it in 2006 and almost certainly with another Dell
Agreed about the tech support although my experience was from using their business technical support line. All 13 hard drives having to be replaced in our works computers isn't a good advertisement for them either ff
Value for money
Typing this on a Dell Inspiron that so far has been fine

All our work PC's are Dell and no plans to buy anything else at this stage.

As Cazi says they did have a problem with disk drives from one manufacturer - but that should have been resolved now

RE: dell I have recently purchased a dell 2.8 gig chip and 1Gb of RAM has dual-core technology as well. absolutely brilliant, also the Medion ones that Amos recomends are quite good for reliability and speed but dell first choice!!
RE: dell Still using a twin cpu P3 dell and it is still fine, along with current P4 and laptop, they dont wear out, just the technology moves on........ I am always wary about recommending IT stuff, but no probs with Dell.
No probs with my laptops. They do everything asked of them and the build quality is great. If you do decide to buy from Dell watch for the offers and don't forget to go through Quidco for an extra 6.5% off.
I look after and maintain about 2000 Dell PC's at work... and the PC's are fine. The only issue is with 'tech' support, as some people have already said...but i wouldn't let that put you off.
RE: What's Quidco? www.Quidco.com Piece of cake to register. The list of vendors they have an agreement with is growing daily. All you do is go through Quidco to the vendors site and after the sale is complete you're tracked and your dosh is paid into your account. You can then transfer it to your paypal account. You can check the vendors in the A-Z. It's worth remembering that it may be cheaper to buy from a non-registered vendor.
Had one since 1999 (Dell Dimension Desktop) Son (who upgrades more often than I do) in on his third. Can't imagine buying any other make, after a few bad experiences before finding Dell.
