Hunter's bought no-one. Team not good enough. Only Evans and Glavin and Barrowclough (and he's passed it) have played at a higher level. Aylott and Parker will be found out, and what other strikers have we? Riley and Walker (Division 4 players). We are in a relagation fight if we don't buy soon. . . . . . In fact we finished 6th.
RE: Imagine a post from the end of 2001/2002 season Just been relegated to league one:
Why didn't we sign any players with the quality to keep us up? Why did we sign lower league players?

Eh? So a side that was promoted 25 years ago didn't have to sign anybody?
Were all the leagues the same? No difference in quality?
Not a big step up from one league to another?

The standard of football is worlds apart the pace at which football is played and the technical ability of the top 2 leagues makes a mockery of any comparison. 25 years ago team spirit, a lot of shouting and a nip of brandy before kick off could get you through. nowadays, without the necessary quality in key areas, you just get found out.
But thats not the point? What has the speed got to do with it?
The point that is being made is the standards between two leagues. Unless you are admitting that in 1981 division 3 was exactly the same standard as division 2 regardless of speed??
I look forward to your reply SM.

25 years ago Division 2 football was more akin to what you see in League 2 now, there has been a noticeable increase in the quality, particularly since up to 9 clubs are receiving millions in parachute payments from SKY and are able to hold onto what is essentially a Premiership squad. it was quite possible 25 years ago to get promoted through the leagues with the same small squad of players - Watford, Wimbledon, Blunts all did it - that just doesnt happen now. The teams that progress beyond the Championship are the ones who have invested in players to improve in key areas - the teams who dont all face a relegation battle. To answer your question, the gap between League 1 and Championship security is signficantly larger than was the case last time we played at this level.
RE: 25 years ago Agreed, just look at the quality of players playing in the championship this season compared to when we were last there. It just doesn't match up and we are going to find out the hard way this season unless something is done about it.
Just because money is spent doesn't mean that... The standard of players has improved.
Players play in division 1 because they are division 1 players. If they are potentially good enought o play in the premier league then they would have been signed by the true big clubs.
The money scenario is just a sign of the times. When BFC were promoted in 81 it was the same story. We didn't have first pick even though money wasn't as prominent then. We were one of the new Division 2 teams, so not a glamorous a choice as the already established teams.

Why? Players who are playing in this division are CC Championship players. All the good players of true premier league class from any of the relegated teams have all been sold.
Birmingham have sold all their best players and replaced them with division 1 players. Sunderland didn't have any premier league players apart from Arca who has also been sold.

RE: Why? Listen, they are all at very least championship players, we have in my opinion 3 championship players and they are Colgan, Reid and McIndoe. Quite simply not good enough and the sooner people start seeing that the better.

Unless I am mistaken, those players were well established and came from a higher division to play for us. Noe of them were "past it" so to speak. Barnsley always had a reputation for paying good wages. I take your point, but it's not really the same situation as we are in at the moment.....
SM v Nutkins. Possibly the most pathetic spat I've ever seen. You boys need to stick to what you're best at: Nutkins - looking gay & being ***** at cricket. SM - dressing like a buffoon & turning a blind eye while I scuttle your lass.
Bald men low self esteem, low sex drive. and thanks for the fashion advice, you double breasted pointy shoed icon.
Yes. You & that bald "mate" of yours seemed very close. Very, very close. You need to borrow your young un's spectaculars - cos I've never owned anything remotely double breasted. Apart from your lasses babayaro's, which I covered in spoff.
Ponty... Go **** yourself you farmer loving pointy shoed scandanavian hearse driving joey.
I love our chats.

Aye have won automatic promotion, narrowly missing out on the championship, we were full of despondancy with a 24 goal a season scottish international midfielder and a team that played exciting attacking football with the best english centrehalf outside division 1, possibly inclusive of said division.
We were absolutely shatting our pants FFS

Nutkins ... Tha can ballax - yer spacky faced, lesroy loving, anorexic spotty herbert. On a stick. Sideways. With a lesroy juice coulis.
