https://audioboo.fm/boos/2078874-barnsleyfc-chief-executive-ben-mansford Apologies if it's already been posted, I had a quick look but couldn't see it. I think it's brilliant. There's still some debate as to whether he'll be good for our club in the long run, I think so, but haven't really got anything to back that up, while others are not so sure, we'll have to wait and see. However, I do think he's the best communicator representing the club we've ever had.
I particularly like what he said about consulting Wilson/Heckingbottom to speak about how a successful environment was fostered in our last two promotions. And when you think about it, yes, both of those teams were a tight knit group made up of many local lads who the club had developed. Im delighted that Ben sees value in trying to build a team of home produced players who have emotional stake in the club. I'd love this again and I'm sure the owner would too. It certainly seems that Ben has had his fingers somewhat burnt with the Shea/Frimpong experiences, and will be wary of recruiting those who use the club to advance their own careers in the future... don't have to be a genius to read between the lines of what was said and hint at that!
Thought the loan stuff was interesting as well. Shows if you're going to get them in it needs to be players who have something to prove (McLaughlin) as opposed to those who think they've already made it, ie Brek Shea.
Afraid I've not had chance to listen to it yet ... ... but does he not state that "The Club" are against FFP?
At least we've had a statement on it. I disagree with him (and the club) though. I understood his points but it goes both ways - it's alright saying we want clubs to be able to pay lots of money for our players but then that inflates prices for everyone, having a knock on impact to us anyway (even if we don't sell anyone).
I haven't worked it all out yet. I'm still a bit hungover and will have to listen to it again. Not sure I agreed with it all, but not sure I understood the full ramifications either. As for the above, I always thought FFP was there to prevent clubs from building huge squads and paying astronomical wages rather than subdue the transfer market. It tends to be wages rather than transfer fees that get clubs in such debt, so I'm not sure that point made by Ben is very important. A side issue rather than the crux of the problem.
