My wife and I have been members of the faithful five thousand and season ticket holders for many years. However, we no longer attend matches on a regular basis. This is purely for financial reasons and nothing else! With a Mortgage and a young family to support £40 per game is just beyond us. I am sure that there are many supporters out there just like us who can no longer afford to go, we have been well and truly priced out! The prices being charged these days are just outrageous.
£40 between you ? But if you get a season ticket it's about £22 a game between you. I would have thought you could afford £11 a week (when you think it's 1 match per fortnight at home).
There speaks a man with experience of running a home and providing for a family. What right have you to say what someone can afford when you have no knowledge of their circumstances.
Yeah - just write a cheque for £600 easy peasy. Or had you considered the possibility that someone on a tight budget didnt just have that amount of spare cash lying around. Surprised you didnt even get the apparent price down to a fiver a week each when you consider there are 52 weeks a year
Just because your "girlfriend" isn't out of nappies, and you don't have any financial commitments, like mouths to feed, a family to support. You really should think before you post. Not everyone can afford to go every weekend, some of us have other commitments.
Real problem for the Barnsley district Money Or the lack of it Barnsley is a poor district, we have the highest number in the country of people on incapacity payments. Thats cos people can't get dole anymore. Theres loads of factories being built but they only pay minimum wage. You have only to walk from the old picture place to where MacDonalds used to be then to Littlewoods, Currys up market hill and now a card shop in Peel Square. How many towns in Britain have so many town centre shops that are shut ? I'd quess at NONE !!! So this is an indicator of how much money there is in Barnsley. Then on top of that you add lack of signings after Cardiff, near the bottom of the league etc etc etc And you end up with 10k attendances
Funny how the poor dole scroungers always manage to find some dough for a dog, deliveries from Dominos and 2 litres of super strong cider for Setdi neet.
in answer to one of your questions nudge rotherham town centre is bleaker than Barnsley town centre.
charity shops, building societys, pubs and furtive looking foreigners hanging about everywhere. Hardly a proper shop in sight.

Haven't been in Rovrum for a while......but have you been in Donny lately? Donney.......mining town But also had railway industry to fall back on Now has - international airport - east coast main line - race course - new football stadium - small meadowhall shopping centre in the centre of town - yorkshire outlet Rovrums always struggled cos its near centre of Sheffield and now has Meadowhall to contend with But the rest of Yorkshire aint as bad as TARN
But a season ticket works out at not much over a fiver a week over a year. Surely anyone can afford to put away £5 every week ?
Are you pissed up? "You have only to walk from the old picture place to where MacDonalds used to be then to Littlewoods, Currys up market hill and now a card shop in Peel Square" That's some round about walk you've done there! You missed Casa Disco as well that has been shut up for a few years now. Seems as though you are only allowed to open a pub or a mobile phone shop in town! But it's the same all over the place in town centre. Out of town shopping centres and supermarkets are taking all the trade.
Thanks, but why bother defending yourself to anybody? Its got b*gger all to do with anyone else when you go and when you don't.

RE: Real problem for the Barnsley district Let me just clarify my situation, I am employed in a management position (albeit poorly paid). At no point in my life have I ever been unemployed or claimed any such benefit. My wife also works. I am a home owner with a mortgage, I have never rented. I don't smoke and rarely drink, only on social occasions. Like I said earlier, I cannot afford to pay the over inflated prices being charged these days. There are many like me in the same predicament. Yes you are right to say attending on match days is not a priority, buying nappies, putting food on the table and paying my mortgage are my priorities! I can feed my family of four at the pub for £20, I can't justify spending the same amount on myself for 2 hours entertainment at Oakwell. I'm sure that when you have your own family and work commitments you will understand, but let me make this crystal clear. I am fully supportive of Andy Ritchie and the team. NEVER, EVER QUESTION MY SUPPORT FOR THE CLUB! I was there when BFC recorded their lowest attendence for years (less than 5000)against Grimsby in the late eighties. were you?
Agree absolutely For me and my 2 boys to come, its about £42 plus £15 of diesel (we live in South Derbyshire).
