I have an indirect source at the club, through this source I was told in March that apparently the regime couldn't stand Flicker. I found this totally unbelievable at the time, the feel good factor, the results, the cup run etc. I said you must be wrong, are you sure you aren't getting your wires crossed here. This info was always coming second hand through a non football family so I would take what was said with a pinch of salt. However when news of Don resigning came to me before it happened and news of the COG transfer hours before it happened I figured maybe some of this internal office gossip was more than gossip. I don't know what point I'm trying to make, but even when it was good, Flicker wasn't popular with the board for whatever reason. Anyway now we have a new team at the top, ok two, I wonder how much of the back sniping comments were passed on to them from the inner sanctum. Possibly along the lines of "we didn't dare not offer him job after last season, we would have lost the fans, however we don't like him and think he's limited, give him a chance but don't surprised if your reaching for trigger before Xmas" Again I have no idea what point I'm making here, it just got me thinking back to what, at the time, I thought was a very unbelievable comment
My understanding (for what it's worth) is that the Don wasn't keen on Hill or Flitcroft. However, Taylor and more importantly Cryne had a lot of time for both. As for the new Messrs in charge, I haven't got clue about their feelings towards Flitcroft. There's been little indication in the press etc that there was any problems with their relationship. Results talk though and I suspect the sole reason he got the boot was because they weren't good enough.
