I doubt he would have been involved with the club for the length of time he has if he didn't bring something to the table. I believe he joined the Barnsly FC board on the same day as John Dennis. Can't remember when that was but it was some years ago! Some people don't particularly like to be in the spotlight. You could argue Patrick Cryne is also a very private man. Maybe he'd agree to come along to the meeting with Ben (which I still haven't organised!)? It would be interesting to hear some of his experiences as BFC director and at the FA!
That'd be cracking. Also interesting that he's the only remaining Board member from the pre-admin days.
I spoke to him at Spotland last year. I'd already spoke to Don a few minutes previous who implored me to tell my friends that the 125 season would be a good one and he said "Bobby eh? you couldn't write a better script" Don, as always, was as pleasant as you could get, and would have stood speaking to me all day I reckon. Every time I spoke to him, I felt like he cared. . Barry came over afterwards and he too shook my hand and greeted me like an old friend. I'd never met him before, though. He then told me we were in good hands with 'Hillcroft' and hoped I'd enjoyed the game and told me to say hello to Matt (Bailey) who I was waiting for. He struck me as a fan. Very giddy and excitable. Not how I imagined at all. Never seen him since. Saw and spoke with Don a few times after that though. . All in all, both were pleasant. And both - on that day - got into the same car and left.
