Machin, Anderson, Wilson, Parkin, Hodges, Hart and Davey as Manager. They were only happy with the appointments of Gudjon and Spackman and fairly non-committal re. Ritchie. It therefore seems par for the course, that the fans are only happy with the choice about 30% of the time.
I'd say a lot wanted Anderson and Spackman who were both ****, nobody wanted Wilson who ended up being the best of all time and most didn't want Davey who was also ****. That doesn't really prove anything
wibble Gudjon the turd polisher ?
Got a team without a striker and a collection of freebies to 2nd in the league at one stage ?
Mind he signed Paul warhurst and then it all went Janice Long. But still, no.

Ermm.. Machin was a popular choice at the time.. As was Viv Anderson. Just because they(Machin in particular)fell out with sections of the supporters during their tenure, didn't make them an unpopular appointment
