Ok lads (and missis Jam drop as well lol) if we do go down this season, would we all accept it if it meant us coming back up again within the first 1 or 2 seasons ?. And I know we cant be sure of that of course!!. I hate the idea of having to go down in order for us to come back stronger, but it genuinely did happen the last time didnt it. If we could start spending more sensibly and I dont mean the usual ridiculous lower league players, then hey we might have a better chance of competing in this league. As the Champship is full of teams with so much money these days we've got to scrap for everything, but I know we can and should have done it better than what we've done this season.
No, I think being relegated is the worst outcome for us. If we can stay up we can rebuild over the summer and hopefully be stronger in the championship next season.
We'd probably have less no international breaks in league one. Teams less likely to make it further in fa cup and cancel games. Not sure why you think we would have more? Unless you are meaning the football league trophy games?
I don't understand this whole concept from fans of "will we accept it, if we go down".... you have no choice. No team has a right to be at any level of football. There are some big teams who've spent a lot of time in the top flights languishing at low levels of football. Charlton, the team formerly known as Wimbledon, Coventry... there are plenty. You get relegated because you don't get enough points. It's just that simple. Why that may be the case, that's all for the after season post mortem. We've been really poor this season, there's no escaping that. There are also some truly shocking teams in the bottom half of the table, but we don't seem able to beat many of them either. I do feel we're better than we've shown, part of that using so many players and not getting any consistency of formation and personnel.
I dont want us to go down but if we do of course I will accept it - its not there is anything I can do about it other than go on like the Arsenal fan on Talksport someone linked to a few days ago and break down in tears. I've seen us relegated several times before and probably will again - its part of football. Will we come back stronger - I dont know - no guarantees and look how long it took the blunts last time, or look at Portsmouth and Coventry. All I do know is any other season we would be down already. The fact we still have a chance due to the total rubbish around us means we have to try and survive. If we go down this season it will be because we have been truly dreadful - I want us to finish this season with a flourish. Lets try and play for 90 minutes in a few games instead of 30 and see what happens
2 or 3 weeks ago I had resigned myself to the fact that we were down. Yet now, due to the fact the everyone else down at the bottom is as awful as we are, here we are still outside the bottom 3 with only 9/10 games to go. So I hope again. But it's the hope that kills you.
What like last time we got relegated - we were all resigned to going down - then we went and won at Reading and Yeovil to give us hope - look where that got us Mind you 2 wins in a row at the moment would just about see us safe the others around us are so bad
I think if we kept most of our team together our young side would do really well in league one. I look at players like Nick Powell & Max Power who didn’t really perform in the championship for Wigan & now they’re superb in league one. If for example Yiadom left & Lindsay was sold I think Davies or Townsend, McCarthy, Jackson, Pinnock, Fryers. Isgrove, Potts, Moncur, Hammill, Moore & Bradshaw is a good starting 11 for that level. I’ve not included Thiam, Cavare, Pinillos & Knasmullner because I can’t see them sticking around if we go down
Always better clinging to the wreckage of the higher division .. But a new plan needed. If you look at Preston Millwall and Brentford all doing well and no bigger clubs than us (so it can be done}... So you don't need to spend a lot of money but we do need to up the anti.. And get people into the club that know English football.. Our scouting and academy as on the hole been appalling..
Thats another problem though Mario, the fact that we're having to sell and totally rebuild the squad every summer. It pains me to think all that hard work from the team and the manager in our promotion season has since been chucked away, and we've put ourselves back in this awful position.
I don't know what the score is with Millwall. Maybe they didn't have as many desirable players as we did when we came up, plus they seem to have come on strong in the second half of the season. Preston have a wealthy owner, and I'm told that although they don't go mad on buying players they pay a bit more in wages. Don't be fooled by Brentford. As much as it looks like they're a little club doing really well, they have taken on a lot of debt along the way. A few years ago it was over £38 million. Out of the 3, I'd say Prestons is the most realistic course to follow. Up the game in terms of paying a bit more in wages and cover yourselves with contracts so you're not giving players away when they leave. If we go down it will be a big advantage lost. We already get better gates than all 3 clubs mentioned, and we're really ready to push on to the next level, but will lose 5k off the gate next season and be starting again.
It won't make a blind bit of difference to me. Over the last 20 years we've been relegated and promoted - I still go and so do 10,000 others. When we got relegated last time it lead to the best couple of months as a fan since - well a long time ago and the first silverware since 1912. What the hell would you do otherwise - Meadowhall anyone? When we get relegated it rips the guts out of me. But when we get promoted - even from league 1 - it's the best feeling - other than winning a mickey mouse tin pot trophy. Another wembley double anyone? I'd rather not but to say anyone wouln't accept it? What are we buying - a burger and fries?
I wouldn't be overly worried if we went down, as I feel we'd have a good chance of returning. But the key for me is that last time, we really were ready for the drop. We needed a change, a fresh start, some respite. This situation is different. We've been taken over and there is every chance we could see decent investment for the first time in ages. What a pity it would be if any potential development of the club was hindered or at least delayed by a relegation. We aren't punch drunk of the Championship like last time we dropped, we're still newly promoted in essence, to have to do it all again would be incredibly dispiriting. But a relegation isn't the end, without continued investment it will happen sometime. I feel our squad would be top 6 in League One, with investment we could return pretty quickly. It just seems so unnecessary given the awful teams in and around us. To go down wouldn't be a total disaster, but a very avoidable and frustrating setback.
Of course we have to accept it, I know theres nothing we can do about it if it happens. What I should have said was will we be as worried about going back down to Lg One if we could be sure of a good first season back there. Some clubs do manage to come straight back up, but some others like Sheff Ure were down there for ages.
