Apparently, I need permission to include images on my blog page....

Is that true? And how would that work?

Seems a bit fussy if you ask me.

Where do you get the images from? Who has said you need permission?

    Google.

A friend told me, after someone told him after reading my blog. He's giving me the heads up, as it's been 'noticed' by certain parties, apparently.

You need the permission of the person who owns the photostock. May be a media group, a freelance photographer or maybe a site like iphoto, shutterstock, photolia. You can acquire images from those sites but they rarely tend to be of particular people, more generic images.

If you take it from a clubs website, ask the club for permission to use it otherwise look for a copyright watermark. I think getty images own a lot of sporting pictures and are very keen to protetct their copyrighted property.

Cheers for that. But it all sounds like a lot of fuss for no real reason.

Thinking of sacking it off tbh, can do without the ball-ache of asking permission for each bloody image. Takes long enough to do as it is. And I can't do a blog without images, it would look bland as owt.

What if you mention the image source under each image that you're using?

You still need the permission of the person who owns the image. Effectively its a royalty. Some may not mind, but if you use it and the owner does mind, you will be breaching copyright. Ballache I know... but them are the rules. You could have a friendly chat with Mark at BFC and see how things work there and if it would be too complex to gain permission.

He isn't profiting from the use of the images though, hard to see what damage is being done. Surely an acknowledgment of image source would be enough, 'tis only a blog. I can't see that the 'rights holder' would bother pursuing somebody through the Courts, what's to gain?

I'm sure we have all posted pictures on Facebook which we don't own the rights to :)

I go away on my jollies tomorrow anyway, so I'll not be doing any blogging for a week or so.

Agree entirely with your post Ponty. You are seeing it from the same viewpoint.

I take that standpoint too. But if a photographer takes a picture and the only way they get paid is through royalties, you're taking an image and using it without paying for the privilege.

Just don't want you getting hit with copyright infringement thats all fella

I know that, mate. And I appreciate your advice.

When I return from my holiday, I'll get to the bottom of it.

I was going to pm you about that mate, it's a right minefield image rights/copyright. You could even be had for reproducing club logos. London Tykes have had grief for years over using the London Underground logo, fair play to Hicksey who would just nicely tell them to bollacks.

It would be a shame to let it spoil your excellent new blog. I would suggest you speak to Don to release basic club logos etc to you for free adding a link to the official site. And then build up a relationship with a photographer, Stretch ideally, or someone who goes to evry match and can hold a camera, who will give you images and you would acknowledge that on the site. I know ideally blogs are totally independent but I can't see any other way around it.

    Thanks for the advice, mate.

I'll investigate it further upon my return. :)
