Since moving to Barnsley have followed the team as have my young family. However I wonder if an incomer like myself can feel as passionate about the club as those who are Barnsley born and bred? I feel BFC is in my sons blood - he was born here - whereas I feel I lack his total commitment. And if you moved could you support what would be your adopted home town team with the passion? you have for BFC?
My passion comes from the fact that my club represents me, my town and it's people. If I were to move, my passion wouldn't dissipate nor be transferred to another club. I doubt very much that people who support our club but who have never lived in the town or area lack any passion, as is proved when they post on here.
Don't worry there's a lot of people from Barnsley that post on here that openly state they lack commitment too Whilst being born and bred here adds something, it isn't a prerequisite for having passion for the club. I'm sure many incomes have as much passionate as home grown supporters
I'm surrounded by Liverpool/Everton/Man Utd fans, and get nothing but stick for supporting 'a sh!te league one side'. I'm sat at work in my Barnsley shirt, some things will never change.
I've never lived in Barnsley but that doesn't spoil my passion. I don't think you have to live somewhere to feel affection to something.
That would be fine if you were sat in either Liverpool or Manchester.. Generally they are just followers, not supporters.
I was born in Barnsley, my mum was born in Sheffield and my dad in Stoke. Still Barnsley is MY home club so I support us, and my dad has got no choice but to come along with me (even if he does enjoy it sometimes ) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I was born in Worcester, brought up in Keighley and as an adult lived all over the country. I finally moved to Barnsley, the birthplace of my ancestors, 8 years ago. My Dad was, and still, is a passionate football fan . Although born in Barnsley and a boyhood BFC fan himself, he took me as a young boy to football matches wherever they were being played and we regularly went to Barnsley, Burnley, Leeds, Huddersfield and even Sheffield United (in my defence his best mate was a fan). Despite Burnley & Leeds being top teams in the 60s, there always seemed something special about being at Oakwell and as a young adult I guess I picked BFC to be my team and have been a season ticket holder pretty much every season since the 1970s. I am extremely passionate about BFC but still retain fondness for Burnley who were the nearest I had to a hometown team living in Keighley. Passion grows over time but it is not a measurable emotional state. One man's passion could be another man's enthusiasm......or stupidity........or insanity.......or anything really. My guess it will be hard not to share your son's passion, however that manifests itself, irrespective of any past allegiances you may have. I'm not sure how you would define 'in the blood' - it has no real meaning.
Yes I did. He was a member of Burnsley's FA Cup winning team in 1968. I remember it being a wet, horrible night at Turf Moor. Eric did progress to the first team and played, I'm guessing here, about 20/30 games before he moved on to Notts County. My recollection is he had a decent career, finished I think by injury. A tough midfielder with a decent touch. Do you know where he is now?
Yes my dads side is. I'm very thankful because apart from the past two seasons we've always in my lifetime done better than Huddersfield Town. Supporting them i'd have seen no premiership, no FA Cup semi final etc but instead seen a season in division four.
Been watching for over 40 years now, however, my passion is slowly being ebbed away as each season progresses. Johnson's team management, 20 minutes before the end on Saturday didn't exactly do anything to restore things.
Don't think it matters. A good mate of mine is from Swindon but has lived in Sheffield for 20 years. He's as passionate about the Owls as I am about the Reds. Passion derives from the person not your place of birth.
Well I moved about 20 years ago and was never tempted to change, the only thing that has changed is as I get older I lack the energy and time to go as often as I used to do!
Lived away from Barnsley for twenty odd years and didn't miss a game for about 6 years between '94 and '00. Best football time ever for BFC, imho
