He must have only seen yellow shirts yesterday. All they did was hoof the fecker up to Beckford and Gardner.
The guy who replies first gets it right. To be honest in the first half, that is all we did, was aim the ball up to Waring. Every time Davies had it in his hands he rolled it out to Nyatanga who rarely had a red shirt within 30 yards of him. In the 2nd half we seemed to use Bailey and Hourihane more who in turn managed to get the ball into the feet of O'Sullivan and Winnall and then we started to have more joy. Had we played the same in both halves, I think we would have won the game. They became fairly direct in the 2nd half as we were in the first, in an attempt to try catch us out whilst we were pushing for that equaliser.
If I had to describe our style of football in two words, the last two words I would use would be "physical" and "direct".
I saw it differently. Thought we were much less direct throughout the match than we have been recently (though agree it did happen, more so in first half). Was really surprised as Preston yesterday. Thought they allowed our players far too much time on the ball throughout and allowed us to play through midfield much more than a lot of other teams have. We really struggle against teams that press us (eg. Leyton Orient) - and was surprised that they seemed to stand off so much. Especially with our first choice centre mids out of the picture. According to BBC we had 59% possession. We've not managed to do that against anyone on this run to my recollection. If I were Preston I'd question how they let that happen.
A midfield of O'Sullivan, Bailey, Hourrihane and Stewart is possibly as far from physical as you can get. To be fair, the rest of the posters in the thread disagree with him. Cranie, Nyatanga and Waring were quite physical but not overly so and you'd expect from our two centre halves and target man anyway. I was surprised by how long ball Preston were, but I think that's also down to how well we closed them down. I'd much rather teams hoofed it down the necks of Cranie and Nyatanga all game who have dealt with nearly every single long ball over the last few weeks. I think quick and tricky wingers who get down the sides cause us the most problems. Our defence is more than capable with dealing anything in front of it at the moment.
