Have I missed a alteration to the Highway Code that says " the use of indicators on motor vehicles is now optional " it's not age related either, none of them gives a bugger.
I think it became optional at the same time it became socially acceptable to rest two hands in your jogging bottoms for a warm. You can't have your hands in two places at once.
No one uses them anymore. Really annoys me when you're following someone down a main road & they randomly brake & turn off without indicating. And has anyone used Dodworth roundabout in the last week or two? Amazing how many people can't follow the markings on the road
I still use them. I know what you mean about Dodworth roundabout though, even though they've made a simple roundabout even easier to use by putting the lane destinations in big letters I've been cut up by people in the wrong lane a few times now.
I was out on a run last night, training for a 10k. I was crossing at the top of a street, had a look to see if anything was coming, there was a car which was approaching quickly, but judging by his speed and the fact he wasn't indicating, I thought he wouldn't be turning. He did. And even had time to flick me the V before flicking his indicator quickly on and off. Oh and this was pulling into a school too. That said, I pulled into a road the other day (I indicated) and a guy cut me up from a little road out of a supermarket and blamed me for what I can only presume was not cancelling my indicator quick enough? You must be the exception then. Also when traffic is moving slower than normal around 50 mph, why do lorry drivers have to drive right up yer ar.se? Any braking required and they'll end up crashing 'cos theyrer definitely too close to stop.
The new rules making indicating optional are in the same section describing how you are allowed to park on quadruple yellow lines in the middle of the road at 45° straddling a pedestrian crossing, provided you are buying fish and chips or picking your kids up from school.
If they don't do it properly in their training then the likelyhood is they will fail the Driving test and at £300 sheets a test its an expensive mistake to make. Now what they do once they have passed the test is another matter !!
When I used to travel south to the birdwell junction because of the incline all the wagons went up nose to tail effectively blocking off the exit to the slip road. The only way to guarantee getting off was to join the convoy when you hit the one mile mark. Try squeezing in between the wagons and they were hostile and if they knew you were trying to get in they just closed the gap even further. Strange as we are discussing this as the wife came in last night cursing slow moving lorry drivers that wouldn't create a gap small enough for her to get on the A1 so she had to pull up and await the car fraternity who possess the filtering skills.
