18th November 2011, Dan was touch and go whether he would make it through the night. He spent the best part of ten days in a coma. 8 weeks and 5 days later, he comes home today. Very proud Dan.
Officially - he can't think of work for 8 weeks, he can't drive for at least 6 months and he can't drink (or more to the point get drunk) for 12 months. UNOFFICIALLY - today he wants to go out tonight and get pissed, go back to work on Monday and use his car to get there ! ! Its gonna be hard work for my sister - he is very headstrong !
Bloody hell - compared to where he was that's beyond belief. Keeping him reigned in is going to be fun for your Sister ! Good problem to have though considering. Well done all.
We were told he would never be normal ........... somewhere between 'nearly normal' and a cabbage was the prognosis. I guess in our hearts because of his superb physical condition we would have hoped the physical side would come back. What has actually happened though is mentally he is very sharp, probably sharper than before - slight slur in his speech perhaps, only discernible to those who knew him and short term memory not quite there yet. Physically he is not quite there - he has been walking and jogging and even doing some basketball in rehab to help co-ordination but that has been slower than we would have anticipated. Last week or so though his balance has improved and you don't feel as though you are waiting for him to fall, and his reflexes seem much better. He was Royal Marine standard fitness before the incident and his goal is to get back to that. One more operation left in a couple of months to install his new metal frontal skull (bone flap was removed to ease pressure and save his life) and then hopefully he can get back to work and live a far better standard than we'd have hoped for. My only immediate concern is that he knows who caused it and far from letting it rest in the hands of the law he is already wanting revenge. Eyes open for all concerned but like mentioned above, far better scenario than some of the alternatives. Cheers
That's amazing considering the state he was in. All the very best to the lad. Did the police catch the b.astards that did it? Are they awaiting trial?
Thats a long story. One lad on bail but they won't charge until Dan can give his version of events. And seeing as he can only remember snippets of that particular Friday that could take some doing !
Excellent news. I would think that after such a traumatic experience there will be some psychological issues and he will need continued support.
