I read a post on here over the weekend and i was insulted to the point of being angry like i haven't been in a few years. Some keyboard hardman who i cant name because my post will get removed decided it was fair game to belittle or lads in the armed forces. As an ex service man of 22 years who has served in the falklands, iraq, northern ireland, bosnia amongst others it makes me sick to see people having a go from the safety of their bedroons behind their computer. I noticed several others had a go back including ex forces like edinburgh tyke, chester and my old pal mario kempes. Rant over just wanted to set the record straight that i was furious and still am although i am calming down a bit now.

I do think many get confused, particularly at this current time, between the validity of a war and the integrity (sp?) of a serviceman. In my view, whether the war is just or unjust (as I hold many currently are), the serviceman does a job very few of us could do, risks his/her life for their countries interests, misguided or otherwise, and this commands respect.

    Really couldn't do your job

My cousin has done two tours of Iraq and have nothing but admiration for her and the job they have done. I personally don't agree with the war in Iraq but the soldiers have done a fantastic job in very difficult circumstances. I taught one of the young lads killed in Iraq and his funeral was one of the most emotional days of my life - what came across was how proud his family and commanding officers were of Adam.

    Spot on.

Reading these responses reminds me that most people do value the work of the forces and that reminds me that the freinds and colleagues i've lost didnt die in vain. We dont chose the wars, we just go where we're sent and do the best we can. thanks.

Ive just finished reading a book SNIPER 1 about a sniper platoon based in Iraq, its a crying shame that joe public doesnt know half what was going on in Iraq,i cant beleive we have feckin busses parading our olympic stars, but when it comes to our armed voices who fight for queen and country we have so little respect and we have protesters complainging about the unfairness of our country interfering in the middle east,i am proud of the way our boys conduct themselfs in battle ,sometimes let themselfs down a bit when they get pissed and fight in civvies but we can forgive them for that, please mate dont get upset by some mindless moron who is clueless to what our troops our doing and having to put up with, rules of engagement eh.being mortared for weeks but cant shoot the guy on the wall with the mobile and binoculars cause hes not pointing a gun at you, just one eg of the **** our boys ave to put up with ,god save the queen god bless you all

Don't let some of the plebs on here get you down. Some of us are extremely grateful for what our armed forces are doing/have done for us. The British Armed Forces are something i think we should all be proud of

Whoever it was ought to be embarrassed at their comments. Our service men and women are one of the few things left in Britain to be proud of. Full respect from me.

I don't think that he was trying to belittle the armed forces at all

Somebody called for all soldiers to be pulled out of afghanistan etc because a relatively small number of them had died. The person in question simply stated that its kind of a given that when you take a job which involves going into a warzone and trying to kill someone who has a weapon then there is a pretty obvious risk that you're going to die. If you aren't willing to accept that risk then its not the right job for you. Apparently that was such a shocking opinion to have that its really angered a lot of people.

He also never said that he could do their job either.

While at the same time he ignored the points that were being made about our troops being woefully under prepared in terms of kit and numbers for this operation.

When our soldiers have to go scratting about in corn fields for food and give up captured positions because there's no reinforcements then I think the smug arrogant line about "they knew what they were signing up for" is downright ignorant.

What Dirk said. Also, after saying this....

"I show compassion; I have many friends out there. However, what I don't agree with, is the fact that people are bemoaning the fact that they are out there.

It's the ARMED FORCES. It really is there job.

What do you people think the Army is for? Really? Do you think it's some kind of amusement park in the Sun? Filled with Ice cream and candy-floss and dancing bears with pink hats on? I assure you, it's not. "

    And receiving this reply -

"Poet, I am a company serjeant major in a infantry battalion andI have served 17 years soI think i know what the army is like. What do you do again??"

    Poetran away and wouldn't answer.
He completely missed the point and, as usual, pontificated on a subject about which he knows **** all.
