http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/paulfletcher/2009/02/what_has_gone_wrong_at_charlto.html#057574 Worth reading for many of those Red's fans who regularly jump on the Davey out bandwagon.
Would not be surprised to see them in administration Losing 11 million and owing 37 million where that sort of money going to come from. I suppose we could let them have a few bob for Darren Ward
Darren Ward is on loan They've gambled on wages for loans signings to stay up. I think they'll take points deducted this year soon if they dont look like staying up.
A couple of wise comments afterwards "Medium sized club, did well, stupid fans living in cloud cuckoo land always demand more." "There are over 50 clubs in the league who's fans think they should be in the premier league within 5 years"</p> Rings a few bells that does. </p>
When you look at teams like Bradford, Wimbledon, Leicester, Leeds & how the big drop from the Prem affected them, we have recovered quite well. Ok we went down to Lg 1 & went into admin, but we have recovered ... Bradford have sunk like a stone.
Its a common post premiership affliction is administraion, The list of who has and who's been close is quite frightening
March 5th rings a bell as deadline............... after that the points come off next season if relegated
I think promotion to the premiership can be a poisioned chalice - you have to mange the club VERY VERY carefully whilst up there to immediately plan for the fact that you are not likely to stay there, ie. Players on big contracts only for 1 year, 2 max (with parachute payments covering it) etc. Any club that does what we did and attempts to get straight back up by continuing to spend big to play at being "Billy Big Boys" in the championship is playing russian roulette with their future. I think that the best approach is to treat the first promotion as a cash cow bonus, be realistic and take the inevitable relegation with a much stronger financial base for being up there, and slowly progres until you go up with a hope of staying there. Look at West Brom for example now, they are a very strong club in this league when they come down, which they will again this year in all liklihood. They will spend a year or three bouncing between the 2 divisions, and slowly will be able to consolidate. The problem is fans, if the club got promoted, would not stand such a "defeatist" attitude. I would, in all honesty, **** myself with worries about the club's future if we were to go up again.
