"we have made changes in personnel, with a new-look team, and introduced a new style of football, which focuses on possession, ball retention. . our play in the pre-season games and then in patches of the first few proper games showed the type of football we are devoloping and im sure the players are capable of playing in this style. we just need to make some small adjustments here and there. . yes, im not stupid, this is a results based business, but we also want to play the game in the right way, the way i believe in, and we will continue down that route. we have changed formation and that means that peoples responsibilities change. but a lot of it is down to belief. people tend to over-react after one or two games, but im not doing that. we are trying to keep possession, but i acknowledge there needs to be more impetus in our attacking play and the players need to learn when and when not to drive forward. . England tried to play in a similar vein midweek and it can sometimes be frustrating to watch, but the adjustments will eventually lead to a more attractive style of play, producing more entertainment and a better team. . building a squad is a long-term process and there are players id like to bring in. but they have to be the right players, at the right price. we have to be prudent. this club has to be run properly. supporters will surely appreciate that we cant just throw money around. but, im happy with the players we've recruited, and i have to give thanks to the owner. Patrick has been brilliant in his backing. . last time out we did create one or two chances, but we didnt pass with a purpose and there was a lack of tempo and urgency going forward. but this weekends match presents us an opportunity to give the supporters much more to shout about. hopefully ill have a fully-fit squad to select from for saturdays match. our attacking play will certainly need to have more impetus and i need every one firing on all cylinders. saturday represents a quick opportunity to put things right at Oakwell." . . . . . those were the words, not of Keith Hill, but of our last manager, Mark Robins this time last season, a few games in... a lot of similarities though if u ask me.. sorry for waffling (stevie), but i got reading the interview and it was as though he could have been speaking about now. not as entertaining as Keiths quotes though, and certainly not as many comments that could anger the fans.. :-D
Genuinely thought I was reading a Keith Hill interview And I thought, that's a lot better, good interview Keith.
Re: Genuinely thought I was reading a Keith Hill interview It is obviously not a Hill interview as he never mentions Keith Hill or say anything detrimental about the fans or having no money! He actually says that the fans will appreciate thae fact we cant throw money around.
Re: Genuinely thought I was reading a Keith Hill interview They keep on coming these new managers with their, so called, new style of football and its just the same boring owd toss. Can we go back to giving it a fookin good go rather than all this defensive, negative s h i t because that rubs of on the fans and the club. Scared to bleedn lose.
Re: Genuinely thought I was reading a Keith Hill interview my thoughts exactly toffee.. it just shows they ALL say the same.
Re: Genuinely thought I was reading a Keith Hill interview It shows that managers all need time, not dim wits booing them after 4 games.
Re: Genuinely thought I was reading a Keith Hill interview Not had that amazing fact on all week, then a nit wit brings it up BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Teams all trying to play like Barca, total football, Ajax in the 70's etc 1500 passes a game and 70% possession every game. Sometimes the ball not coming out of your own half for 5 minutes but possession is kept, more teams are now trying this since the success of Barca over the past few years. You do need good footballers who can play this way and are comfortable on the ball though, many managers fail to see this and there needs to be an end product or you'll look like Doncaster Rovers.
They may say the same things but its what they do differently that counts I liked Robins, thought he did a good job for us. But personally I didn't see an awful lot of different in the style of football between his teams and Davey. Regardless of what your thoughts are on Hill, he is certainly training to play a very different style of football. You may not like that style of football or think it will be ineffective given our budget constraints, but that was the remit on which he was appointed. People used to criticise both Davey and Robins for the style of football we played under them and were seemingly disatisfied at the staying up at any cost approach. Hill has been clear from day one that he will not abandon his principles of trying to play a short passing game, the board appointed him on this basis, and to be honest I would be disappointed if he did abandon those principles.
To be fair Doncaster Rovers have been very succesful playing that style of football. I certainly would have prefered to watch their style of football over the last 5 years.
