£500K - the possible trick? Some facts about the whole speculation and why BFC haven't yet approached him.... He's under contract until end of month, so if someone wants to 'Buy' him now, and Newcastle agree, they can talk to him. Otherwise, in the domestic league, they can only talk to him after contract has ended. A bit like e-bay, 'Buy It Now' and pay higher money, or Bid but risk losing it to someone else. If Newcastle have offered him new contract, and he still goes, they'll be due compo. IMHO Compo should be less than £500k, especially if dropping down a league. Compo is only sorted AFTER the played has gone to the new club, and is sometimes settled in tribunal cases. (i.e. has no affect on which club the player chooses). Fabregas (aged 16) to Arsenal - £1m compo. So basically, the £500k figure splashed around is in-accurate. And could only be possible in an actual Transfer situation, where a club WANTS a player, so decides to offer to buy him, get first in on contract negotiations, and get him signed before others can talk to him. £500k is probably around £100k more than what Newcastle would get for him in a tribunal. Overall, a devious but very clever scenario - master-minded by Ridsale. Which means, it's still Chopra's choice of which club he wants to join. And why haven't Barnsley gone in for him? Because we can't afford to offer a 'BUY IT NOW' price, so will have to wait until contract runs out, and take a chance in a tribunal. So if Chopra wants to join Cardiff - he will. If he wants to join us - he'll wait until end of Month.
Not sure you are completely correct I am sure that we can approach a player who will be out of contract in the last few months of his existing one (not sure if its 3 or 6 months) - I think it has to be done officially via his club but there is nothing to stop him signing for say Cardiff tomorrow with his contract to start when the Newcastle one expires - the clubs can either agree comp or go to tribuneral. Of course I think the biggest stumbling block to us signing Chopra or keeping McPhail is salary - If Cardiff are offering £10K+ per week and we are offering 2K or 3K its a fairly easy decision even if they would prefer to play for Barnsley
RE: Not sure you are completely correct I checked this out on the FA website - haven't got the link anymore but the way I read it was that a player can only be contacted once he has turned down the new contract from his current club.
RE: Not sure you are completely correct If they are being offered that amount of money then their fools. They are having financial problems then wages like that are ludicrous. Who in their right mind is offering that wage? (chinny) (chinny) (chinny)
RE: Not sure you are completely correct They've plans in to move grounds, spending big now and hoping that move will come off. They've also just got £3m for Jerome.
RE: Not sure you are completely correct and thet are 28 million pounds in debt , new ground has yet to be given planning permission let alone a build start date.
Don't agree because looked what happened with hayes last year. we just sorted out thst he was signing for us at the end of his contract with scunny and then it went to a tribunial. Why did we not have to pay compensation for howard?
So, as said, I reckon Cardiff are 'Buying' him, to make sure they can get to him before anyone else - but I still think they'll pay more than they would at a Tribunal. Point is, Cardiff ARE gonna go bust in the next few years. Because they are trying to be a bull in a china shop to enable them to get promotion. Wonder what odds I'd get at the bookies for Cardiff going bust in the next 3 years?
Cardiff could have offered 10k last season, but they didn't Had they done so, I'm pretty sure McPhail would have jumped ship LAST season. He'll have taken a pay cut, because his salary at Barnsley was artificially high. Terry Nutkins pointed out to me earlier that Leeds did not contribute last season, but the value of the contract extension was agreed when McPhail originally signed for us and I would imagine it was not peanuts. I imagine they are not paying him anything like that amount - but it is obviously more than we are offering.
