Jason Kerr - St Johnston to Wigan for £600k. A central defender who we were reported to be interested in for a few season back (I think we had a £200k bid rejected and he signed a new contract). It'll be interesting to see how he goes in English football though I'm a little surprised he's gone to a League One club as he was still highly regarded by some up here. Kyle Joesph - Swansea to Cheltenham on loan. The striker from Wigan who we were reportedly interested in during the 'winter window' last season. It looks like he isn't ready for the Championship for a Swansea side that is struggling for players which is interesting as at the time we were not short of 'promising' forwards that needed a loan spell.
Doesn't looking the new buyer has learned any lessons from the past. However, to all those saying we'd never find another buyer Wigan don't seem to have had any difficulties!!
There seems little shortage of people willing to take a punt on a football club, and generally flush their money down the bog. At least our owners are different in that regard... they are just using it* to buy more tiny European clubs. * note, the money in question may not be theirs.
Not sure what to make of Wigan to be honest. On the one hand, they've had to make a load of signings because they only had a handful of contracted players, and a lot of those were frees. On the other hand, even for frees, the wages paid to the likes of Wyke and McClean are eye watering for league 1 level. This new owner is talking a good talk, and I guess Wigan fans can feel somewhat assured that he seems to be 'involved' unlike the previous owner who just signed off on stupid budgets and then left the running of the club to others until he pulled the plug. But his resolve will be tested if they don't get promoted this year or next.
