that the Soton players looked more like proper footballers in terms of physique and athleticism than the Barnsley players.
Isn't this what we've been banging on about for so long now..... our lot are too small, too lightweight etc to be able to compete effectively.

If we go down i expect us to field a team full of giants next season. Thats what relegation would mean, very little skill and plenty of boot. How about Derek Parker putting in for the managers job when Davey gets the push at the end of the season. He talks a lot of sense does our Derek. (titanic)

Despite living 220, or so, miles away from Oakwell, I have only listened to commentaries from Derek Parker and Radio Sheffield 6 or 7 times. The reason is that they are embarassingly poor. I liked Derek Parker as a player, but he, and the rest of the the commentary team, are overwhelmingly self-centered and amateurish. I've spent enough time hanging on to my computer wanting to hear about the action and hearing only conversations/bemoaning opinions.

David in Lincoln has obviously picked up from the commentary something which resonates with him. Frankly, I would be more embarassed if the many, many, Southampton fans I was surrounded by yesterday, heard that load of b*****ks that was, apparently, spouted by Parker & Co than I was by the Barnsley team.

    "players are too small"

    one of my pet hates

a big reason why the english game is in a mess is that this attitude is prevalent throughout the youth system - loads of talented footballers aged 11-16 are cast aside because they are "too small" - some that come back to play at the very highest level, there's loads of examples - shaun wright phillips being just one. obviously you need some height in the side but smaller players with a lower centre of gravity are often the very best.

    small players rule.

Never heard anyone complain in the good old days about the size of Arthur Kaye and Johnny Kelly...Reason, they COULD play football.
