Interesting to read the posts regarding how players are rated

The best player I've ever seen is Pele. The best English player I've ever seen is Bobby Charlton. The best Barnsley player I've ever seen is Ronnie Glavin.
Now onto current players. The player I enjoy watching most on the international stage is Lionel Messi. The Barnsley player I enjoy watching most is Jacob Butterfield. Sadly, no present England players stir my soul, as it were.
I doubt very much if anyone else will agree with all my choices, but that is what expressing differing opinions is all about. It's not a case of who knows best, or who's opinion is most valid, as it's all subjective.
I'm glad I know bugger all about football. At least I don't have to carry the burden of being an all-knowing footballing oracle!:D

Can i ask you a question BigLil

If you wanted to to learn about archeology who would you listen to the most?

Would it be a leading person that's done a lot in that field and won awards for it?

You are someone's post that i like to read. Don't ever get too low and seem to think about a season instead of one game.

You're either thick or very arrogant to think that football is like archeology.

I read and study the work of the professionals

To build up my basic knowledge. Then, as my knowledge and experience increases, I begin to develop my own opinions and observations. In order to back these up, it is my responsibility to provide my own evidence. As in football, archaeology very rarely operates within parameters of absolute definitives. Awards do not enter into the equation.
I try to maintain an optimistic outlook with regards to Barnsley Football Club, but it's not always easy!!:D

I see what you did there

But fossils are from the domain of palaeontology, not archaeology. I suppose the best analogy I can think of is comparing Ron Atkinson to, say, Paul Hart!:D

palaeontological dig doesn't sound as good but I think I've just demonstrated that I have a Hemsyesque grasp of archaeology !!

Re: I see what you did there

Just to go back to the original post for a second,
Best player I have ever seen play football, either Pele or Cryuff.
Best English player, either Gazza or Bobby Moore.
Best Barnsley player, got to be Glavin, but I have a soft spot for Bobby Doyle too.

    Current players,
World player Messi/ or Giovanni Dos Santos, when he plays for Mexico, not club.
Barnsley player, Steele as good a keeper as any in this league and most of Prem.
England player- I am not enamoured with any of the overrated players at the moment, but I hope Wilshire can become a class player and not follow the route of plenty of other England players.

All the above are my opinions and I do not expect anyone else to agree with my choices, but then again I will not agree with yours either and that is what an opinion is!!!

    Eric Cantona
Best player Ive seen live: Toss-up between Robert Prosinecki or Dennis Bergkamp
Best England player ever: Paul Gascoigne
Tarn player that Ive seen: Craig Hignett pips Neil Redfearn on talent
