At home I am an AOL Broadband user and connect through a BT Voyager 105 modem. Recently I have not been able to log onto the internet. When I try and log on the 2 arrows on the toolbar turn green as they should but before I can log on they turn yellow and say the modem is training, whilst I get another message saying a network cable is un-plugged. I have deleted the modem and re installed it , and I have also unplugged and refitted all cables. Anyone got any advice please

    Thanks in advance :-|

I had the exact same problem. Same network , modem etc. I was/am using a telephone extension lead, but it seems sometime the lead loses 'the signal'. Untangling the phone lead and making sure the phone point is working, seems to get the line back on for me

    Is your ADSL line dead?

Sounds like you might have lost your ADSL connection. There should be an ADSL light on your modem which is usually amber when you switch it on, then flashes green whilst it trains (i.e, syncs to the ADSL connection). Once synced it should remain permanently green. If you can't get that far you have a basic connectivity problem. If you have a spare ADSL modem or can borrow one from a mate you can check whether its the line or the modem. If you can't do that, check with BT if there is a known problem in your area.

RE: Is your ADSL line dead?

Could be. The voyager 105 has three green lights on the front. The left is power / middle DSL / right data. The first two come on when trying to log on but the DSL light goes off when the message comes on screen that the network cable is unplugged. I have even been and bought a new dsl cable just in case it was that. we have a spare modem which we have tried and the same result occurs. one thing I have not tried though, thinking about it, is swapping the filter that goes into the phone line. Could that have anything to do with it ?

USB or ethernet connection to pc ?

I had loads and loads of problems with my USB modem, similar thing to you losing connection all the time, ended up changing it for a ethernet one.

Ask BT to run a line check to rule that out.

Unlikely to be the filter but worth a go I suppose

If you have 2 modems that do the same its almost certainly a line fault

As others have said - if it is training its trying to find the adsl signal.

Just in case its something at your end its always worth unplugging any extension cables and just plugging the modem into your main Phone socket (You will need your filter) and if it does the same call your phone supplier -
