Internet connection help required.

Hope someone can help me or at least point me in the right direction.

Over the last couple of days my internet connection speed has decreased significantly. When I try and log into some sites I get the "the page cannot be displayed" error message, on others the pictures don't load and I get the little red cross sign. This site is the only one that seem to work okay though sometimes this site loads with blue text and anytime I search on google it takes forever. I've done spyware scans with adaware and done a virus search with AVG but this hasn't improved matters.

Anybody got any ideas.
