Millers snub Tykes' Williamson bid Rotherham have reportedly turned down a £150,000 bid from newly-promoted Championship side Barnsley for midfielder Lee Williamson. Millers chairman Denis Coleman is believed to have slapped a £1million price-tag on the 24-year-old, but with the club's financial difficulties well documented, the Tykes were hoping to land their man for a cut-price fee. Williamson arrived at Millmoor on a free transfer from Northampton last summer and has since established himself as a regular in the first team, scoring four league goals last season(dunno)
from what i have heard - would be a fantastic signing but he's out of contract at the end of the year. think they are being a bit unrealistic turning down that amount of money for him when they are in admin. also - i thought that the administrators could accept a bid if it was in the creditors best interests?
Trying to lure another club into the bidding I suspect they will have to sell, he'd be a great signing for sure. A midfield of Devaney, McIndoe, Howard and Williamson would certainly be a match for most in the Championship.
RE: from what i have heard - would be a fantastic signing They're not in admin, are they? They've been taken over.
RE: Trying to lure another club into the bidding yep - have you seen him play? heard nothing but good from rotherham / northampton fans - box to box player with a good engine apparently. wonder how much we're prepared to pay for him? if he's only got a year left then they can't seriously want more than 250k i wouldn't have though. Him, an experienced striker (i'd be pleased with Windass) and a centre back and i'd be confident of survival.
Seen him play always been impressed, dangerous around the box, gets forward, pacey, got the lot. definately capable of making the step up to Championship, fingers crossed we'll push the boat out and get him signed up.
RE: You're a lot more confident than I dont get me wrong, if someone offered 4th bottom before we kicked a ball, I'd snatch their hand off. midfield I dont think will be a problem for us next season, we have players there capable of raising their game to Championship level. Up front, I think we need to add some quality. and we need an experienced centre half.
RE: from what i have heard - would be a fantastic signing Did he play against us at oakwell? I dont remember
RE: from what i have heard - would be a fantastic signing i thought we had incresed our bid to 200K (pint) (popcorn) (chinny)
He is supposed to be a very good player Will. A Miller's fan posted on here the other day about the situation at Rotherham. Check the thread: http://barnsleyfc.org.uk/bbs/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=39111&mid=239977#M239977
