Invertebrates on and off the field

Have had a day to reflect on yesterday's spineless performance and the events off the pitch during the week.

I accept and understand how "in fighting " between Boards and managers impacts on the players and fans.Same happens at work and we all have experiences of going into work when the atmosphere is so awful or we suspect something bad is going to happen .

Difference between the fans and our players is that the fans just get on with it and our players behave like babies .

OK it is obvious to me now that the Senior players are losing or have lost respect for the manager. This is no excuse for yesterday and to a degree last week at Brum .I am not saying this bcause we lost.

Our captain- Reid yesterday should have taken charge, motivated the team and inspired them to carry on regardless. He didn't and we were leaderless and rudderless on that pitch against a Palace side that must have thought Christmas had come early.

If things between the Chairman and Ritchie are half as bad as we are hearing Ritchie should not have been around yesterday.

The team were clueless yesterday. Hassell was not fit enough , the midfield did not play as a unit, obvious the last 2 games now, the strikers work rate to track back and try and win the ball or defend was zero and so when we lost it through poor passing and slow respoonses, the defence spent the game under constant pressure.
With their fast wingers and our 2 slow full backs ,exacerbated by Devaney not on the programme for the second game running it was embarrasing to watch.

Reid is also struggling with his game right now which may explain why he not acting like a captain leaving Kay to shosulder all the responsibility in defence.

Colgan was totally unprotected at times and had no chance when CP split our defence.

When the midfield did try and do something they were playing on top of the defence and making things worse.

Nothing changed at half time .Why ? It is a long time since I have had to witness such a sight of 11 players in Barnsley shirts appearing not to care, not even run, no movementwith or off the ball, no calling to one another, no interest in the fans-Brian Howard the exception.

Mc Indoe did try in the first half but even he gave up as no one else was even out of the starting block .

I think the team should cough up out of their own pockets the total entrance fee paid by the Barnsley fans yesterday to a charity of the fans choice as a gesture .If not we should investigate whether they can be sued under the trades descriptions act for not delivering the required service, on the basis that this was NOT football.

Re the invertebrates at the club- off the pitch , they should not be proud of themselves in all this as their behaviour has contributed to our rolling over yesterday .My message to them is stop this death by a 1000 cuts.It is like a virus and impacting right cross the club ,causing the team to lose confidence , give poor performances and then the fans dispair , some voting with their feet.Vicious circle; de ja vu .......
How many times do we go through this same process.

Sort it Board as a priority now so we go into our next game with more confidence and clarity. We are not expecting miracles. We are expecting appropriate leadership as well as governance of our club.

When this is sorted I would love to see us have some new blood round that Board table. It is the same old faces ,same mediocrity, short termism, Barnsley market mentality .I fully appreciate what they have done to make the club more financially viableand thy do a lot of good things .Let them now rebalance efforts to balance books with investing in improving the offering on the pitch.

Other clubs in our division are managing it .Why not Barnsley ?

Good to see some of you from this board yesterday.Like Farnham I wish I had had another glass of wine or two in the pub before the game.

Tina hope you are feeling better.

    Lets see what tomorrow brings.

    Freya
