Not sure what this is but I need it on my iPod for certain apps to be compatible. Could someone please tell me how to get this?

    Thanks

are you sure you need it and not a more recent one

Ios4 is the operating system that Iphones and Ipads run on but 4 is an old version. Current version is Ios 5.1 ( 4 is over 2 years old) so unless you have a very old Ipad you probably need to be on an Ios5 version

Easiest way to get them is via itunes.

What I am not sure is whether early ipdads will run on it - I know early Iphones dont run on the current releases but then they cant run the apps that need the newer versions either

I've got an iPod touch that I've had for two and a bit years so it might not be compatible then.

I suppose it's a good way for to them to encourage/force you to get the latest model.

plug it in, launch itunes, then click on your ipod to bring up the information window... in there, click the "check for updates" button, you'll get the latest one then.

You can also do this without connecting your iPod to iTunes if you have wi fi by clicking on settings, general and then software update, if you need to update it will download and install it for you.
