    THE ONLY PROBLEM

with any android tablet is the lack of good apps for them at the moment, this will definatley get better but at the moment apps poor.

have you thought about buying an i pad from here(USA) on amazon.com or ebay or even apple store. a i pad 3 not the 3g one start around $299 thats about half of what you would pay in the uk i believe.
all you have to do then is buy the uk plug adapter the 3 pronged thing or just charge it off any USB port most tvs have them and all computers.

just a thought. and some help

I have an I pad and a Samsung galaxy tablet. Both have their drawbacks and merits. The I Pad s probably the better piece of kit, but doesn't support flashplayer, so playing movies can be a chore. The Samsung is the 7" version, no 3G option, but you can put a mini sd card in and expand the memory. I take it to most away games and watch a couple of films. Battery lasts 5-6 hours in each and it just fits in my pocket. The previous poster is right about the apps.

It depends what your young 'un wants it for to be fair.

    Two concerns over that one

    1) It's an old version of Android (2.1). I'd have thought you could get newer for a similar price. Dunno what the practical implications would be though regarding compatibility and what you can do.
    2) What's all that about the 2nd largest Android apps store? That implies it uses some cut-down version compared to Google Play. Is that normal? What you really want is something that runs stock Android, giving access to the full Google Play.

Windows RT on a Microsoft Surface is the way forward. Amazing device and will put MS back on top of the pile. Price is prohibitive for you at the mo, but it will come down. Apple have a fight on !

Superpad 8 off EBAY. £129.00. 10inch screen with 24gb memory bought one a couple of months ago easy to use and although android are behind apple with the apps they are slowly catching up.

Decent bit if kit. No 3G on it though so would need an Internet dongle for use outside the home without wifi.

    I don't know whether I like Windows RT / 8 or not

In theory it will sell well on the strength of the Windows name, hinting at familarity and compatibility. But when folk realise they can't run their PC applications on their tablets, will the appeal disappear? The amount of available apps on Apple and Android are going to make it even less appealling. Of course, pretty much all new PCs are going to be shipped with Windows 8 so that's massively in their favour. But the Windows 8 OS idea seems a bit clunky to me. Sort of Windows 7 with an apps launcher bolted on. And definitely not something you want if you don't have a touchscreen. Odd times. There's no predicting what people will go for.
