Never been to Ipswich before, but probably going to make the effort for the opening day as I'm off back to Russia before the Derby game. Assuming my missus and little one don't fancy the match, does anyone know if there's much to do in the town itself? On the same tack, is it worth staying over, or best to get out asap after the match? TIA.
Nawty little place, groups of lads all over looking for trouble. Get out ASAP after the game. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
My prejudiced side says it will be much the same as Peterborough, full of carrot-crunching locals with webbed feet, and Lithuanian farm workers. My optimistic side hopes it will be like Norwich (the good shops and bars, as opposed to the carrot-crunching locals with webbed feet).
Sod Ipswich. If you've got time and money then spend the weekend in nearby Lavenham, if you haven't been before. You'll be transported off to another world, nothing like Barnsley, Goldthorpe, Thurnscoe or Russia. It's my favourite place ... ever, ever, ever.
Is it good for clubbing round there? Any locals who fancy a doo or what? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Prostitutes around Portman Road and the road to Norwich. Ipswich doesn't have much for the tourist but the surrounding area is nice.
I visited a few years ago just for one night at a hotel on the quay. Some nice old buildings a nice little food market and a quaint local museum. Think its best years are behind it, and having visited Norwich just a few weeks ago, it's light years behind. Enough to do just about, but it has a lot of development to do before it can compete with the likes of Norwich, Brighton and Bristol.
Assuming we have good weather I'd send them down to the harbour for a late lunch. I'm not saying it's great but imagine it could be if the sun is out. Not just bars but a few food places too. I went for the game where it was nearly snowed off a couple of years ago so it was absolutely deserted!
Norwich is beautiful, but unfortunately it's in the wrong direction as I'm off to London on the Sunday. It's looking like Bury St Edmunds could be a decent shout - seems quite cute and oldy-worldy.
I used to live in BSE. It's quite picturesque, but there's not much to do. The Grapes was about the only pub with any sort of atmosphere. I'd suggest Southwold or Aldbrough instead.
