Lampard has not earned his England spot in a while - both for club and country...

Maybe give someone else ago and put Gerrard where he plays best

    RE: beckham?

Sorry, the Beckham era is over, time to move on, he'd become stale and offered very little towards the end.

    Lampard..

toss world cup. I'd say Beckham was better.

Let's see if McClaren has the bottle to drop one of the Chelsea Boys and a media favourite...

Get Gerrard and Hargreaves in middle of park

    RE: beckham?

i'm not saying that he should be an automatic choice which he was under sven but i find it difficult to accept the argument that some of the midfielders in the present squad are better than beckham.

he also contributed towards goals more than any other player for us in the world cup.

    Agreed..

dropping him was more about pandering to the media than actual ability and usefulness. I can't accept that Beckham does not even warrant a squad position anymore. And Wright Phillips does

He could well get a recall, but as a stopgap, can't see him being a long term participant in the Mcclaren set up.

    i see what you mean

but surely we have got to look at qualifying first.

We have some difficult places to go - places where Beckhams experience would be invaluable.

    Phil Neville
    Stewart Downing.

    hmm

Redstar is spot on in what he says - dropping Beckham was to make a statement tothe media

Now that statement is going to look pretty silly if we draw or lose tonight.

I was not happy with McClarens appointment and dropping Beckham did nothing to alter that.

No idea. Definitely not at work, though. Honest.

    Lennon.

They hit us with a couple of hard tackles at the beginning and we bottled it. We need someone who's prepared to take players on and get behind the defence.

Agree on Downing, seems overwhelmed, Joe Cole ........

when fit offers more, and a goal or two, Aaron Lennon does more in seconds on the pitch, than a recent Beckham provides.

yep lennon looks like a good prospect if a little raw.

still think beckham's experience and delivery will be missed
