We've been losing games late on because of a lack of options on the bench. The manager had some decent subs to bring on last Saturday and it showed. Isn't Dan better off as our "super sub" for the time being? I'd like to see Andy employing similar tactics again next week. Personally, I'd much rather we finished the game stronger.
Yes it REALLY is. Our strikers are not scoring. There is a lad warming the bench who is fit and is looking hungry. Why wait until two thirds of the game has gone before bringing him on? Look at it this way - Richards and Nardiello - chances are one will play for two thirds of the game, one will play for one third. On recent showings which way round would you prefer? Also, I can't see the logic in this "important to finish strongly" malarkey. Why do we want the team who walk off the pitch at the end to be better than the one who walked on it at the start?
RE: Yes it REALLY is. If we can race into a two goal lead in each game, then I'd go along with you. However, that's not going to happen every week (even WITH Danny in the team). Essentially (and I know we have missed chances), we have been beaten because the opposition has finished the game stronger than we have. They have been able to bring someone on who can make a difference. In contrast, Andy hasn't really been able to do anything positive at all. This has happened in nearly every game I can think of in recent weeks (apart from the Leeds game). Interestingly, Leeds' substututions were rubbish. I just think we need our best team on the pitch for the second half (in preference to the first half).
But the problem REALLY is That we don't have enough players of adequate ability. Once some of the starting eleven tire, the players coming off the bench are proving ineffective, whereas our opponents replace quality with quality. This I agree with entirely. Unfortunately, the only way we can "hold back" more able players to bring on at the end is to start out with these weaker players in the line up. I think this is only going to see us conceding earlier in games and end up chasing more games. I don't see Nardiello being a "super sub" in this equation - I see him as the name that will ring from the stands when were 2-0 down with the thankless weekly task of trying to turn it round. Then go 3 or 4 games without a goal and the booing will start. The problem simply boils down to a lack of strength in depth IMO.
Still don't stop him being hungry though... Surely best thing to do is to feed the lad... Bdum-tssh! (tumbleweed)
