Doesn't it say Chelsea are chasing Cole?

Anyways, in answer to the question, definately not. In spite of England's limp performance at the World Cup I still think the overall quality of young English players is improving. This, I put down to the influx of foreign players.

Don't think we could if we wanted to

Restriction of trade and all that.

Missed the one on Cole but...

Are young players such as Scott Carson and Shaun Wright-Phillips improving or being kept out of playing regularly by the influx of foreign stars?

The problem you have, putting Chelsea to one side, is that the cost of English players is silly money. You can go out and buy a better player from abroad and save on wages allot of the time.

Just like the foreign players cn come over here to play there is just as much chance for an english young lad to go abroad to play.</p>

True, but players want to play in the best league and quite honestly I don't think any other league comes close to the English one.

Shaun Wright Philips is arguably being kept out of the side by an Englishman (Joe Cole)

I do accept your point though. However, I see it more as a challenge than a threat. If young English players have hopes of making it at the top level and perhaps playing for England they have to prove that they are better than the foreigners coming in. THe higher the standard of footy in England becomes...the more the young English players will improve.

Also, let's not forget the entertainment value of foreign players. Most of my favourite Prem players of the last few years have been foreign (Bergkamp, Ginola etc)

Would we have been promoted without De Zeeuw, Bosancic and Marcelle?

Could probably only do it on non-EU nationals, as is the case in La Liga
