We were poor - much poorer than recent weeks - of that there is no doubt. However, it was a far from meritless performance. We passed it well in long spells and could have easily had a penalty and been bearing down on goal 5 onto 3, had the ref not pulled it back to halfway for an innocuous foul. Let's face it, Peterborough didn't string 5 passes together all night. What they did do is their homework on us. With no real out-and-out wide players, the onus was on the fullbacks to get forward. Both our fullbacks are very one-footed so if you force the fullbacks inside and track any overlapping runs our width is quite limited. In the centre of defence we lacked pace and aeriel ability, so they tried the long-ball approach and undid us 4 times with it, scoring twice. The 2 goalscorers were both million-pound rated players and I think Peterborough did a job on us. We were short on answers to Peterborough's approach and frustration set in, causing a fair few loose passes and dropped heads, despite bossing possession overall. But we can learn from that - Hill was out-thought and he won't like that one bit. People are going on like our slick passing game of recent weeks has somehow imploded and we're now hopeless again. Save that for if we go on a run like Wednesday have. Bad day at the office, no more, less. These things happen. Hillflicker will analyse what went wrong and effect change. Keep the faith
End of the day we got 4 points from 9, before the start of those last 3 games i would have been happy with that.
yep, totally agree mate. I think we lacked urgency but on another day it could quite easily have been a home win. Davies was desperately unlucky with his world class strike that hit the underside of the bar. We do miss a Vaz Te character to break through and need to be braver going forward sometimes. All too often players take the easy option and go sideways or back rather than attack the opponents. I think this was evident last night. onwards and upwards, we can go into the Leeds game with confidence.
Re: Revvie P added to the list of folk worth reading I rest my case - also Chef Tyke who contributed to this thread is generally worth reading and there are others but I am not going to name them as I will definitely miss someone
Re: Revvie P added to the list of folk worth reading I thought we were dreadful. The defence was at sixes and sevens every time a ball was put into the box, we were lucky they weren't out of sight by half time. Yes, we impoved in the second half, it would have been difficult not to, and had we got the penalty decision or Harewood got his head on that cross, then I think we would have gone on to tget something out of the game. But, overall there was a lack of movement, and our passing seemed laboured. The number of stray passes or ones that were so obvious that they could be read and cut out was amazing. The only passing we seemed to be able to string together was in our own half. Only Stones seemed to have any willingness to run at players and take on defenders.
Re: Revvie P added to the list of folk worth reading I do agree with this post we did played OK Sometime lacked urgencty though With a big strong comanding centre half we would have won
