Is it me, or is this site getting more confusing to work out who is replying to who?

Am I reading it the wrong format or something? Replies seem to appear at the bottom of the thread more and rarely after the post they are replying to......

The problem is that the traditional BBS threaded view isn't very good on this version of the BBS so a lot of people have abandoned it so now when they press reply it just goes to the bottom of the thread and in completely the wrong place.

Add that to Andy Tyke merging threads together all over the place and you end up with a BBS that makes about as much sense as an average Hemsworth Tyke post.

I find the hybrid view is the best for seeing the pattern of the thread although people do still reply to the wrong post at times so it doesn't matter what view you're using then.

and i like the linear mode, its what youre comfortable with.

It's like random thoughts going off in people's heads, no structure at all.

i quite like it, a bit like an old people's home, but football based.

I agree. I think it'd be a good move if there was just one format that everyone would have to use.

Leave it as it is, it's a lot better like this, I found the old one really annoying having to click on each reply to read it, it took ages to load only for the reply to be a full stop on it's own or something

Thats why I tend to use "reply with quote"

Those of you using linear are like a teenager with a new dick. You shower your posts all over the place. If you're going to do that at least quote who you're replying to.

When you read a book do you like it on one long piece of paper 300 yards long so you don't have to turn the pages?

That comparison doesn't make much sense to me. What have the linear mode and not turning pages when you're reading a book got to do with each other?

I don't think the analogy is that obscure Tomi.

In threaded mode you click each post individually. It's like turning the pages of a book. Something that people seem to be complaining about. In linear mode all the posts are published in one long list. The equivalent would be a book printed on one long piece of paper.

Some people obviously prefer linear mode, they find it easier and more convenient. But there is no argument that this makes the BBS clearer, easier to follow and better set out, because it just doesn't. It's a massive step backwards for coherent dialogue and I'm amazed the internet has gone this way.

Each to their own but I disagree. I find linear mode much better, much easier to use, and less time-consuming.

But as I say, each to their own. I'm not going to be nasty about others' preferences. It's only a forum after all.

 

Agreed. The main advantage of linear over threaded is the ease of navigation IMO. One click on a topic and I can view everyone's posts opposed to having to click multiple times just to read each post.

The problem with linea mode is that there is a 'reply to thread' button and a quick reply box at the bottom. Use either of these to post and your posts appear in completely the wrong place for everyone using the threaded mode view. Use the 'reply' or 'reply with quote' buttons under any post and the reply goes in the right place for everyone whether that is linea, hybrid or threaded.

The solution is obvious imo and one which I have suggested 2 or 3 times to admin. Remove the 'reply to thread' button and change the quick reply box to only appearing when the 'reply' button is pressed so that it links to a specific post.

Wont happen though because AndyTyke has proved with his draconian merging of threads that he doesn't give a **** about the viewing experience of those using threaded view.
