Is it more important for a player to do well in a match or in training?

It's always seemed odd to me how managers say 'you don't see them in training' about players that I've seen perform better on a matchday than others who supposedly 'bang then in for fun in training' or whatever.

Personally, I couldn't give two hoots who plays well in training, it's what happens at 3pm on a Saturday that matters to me.

Yes I know that training is there to work hard and try and impress your manager, but when it boils down to it, it's performances in games that matter.

But unless Kozluk, Johnson & espially Christensen are totally unfit I can't see a reason on earth, given our

    1. inability to keep a clean sheet
    2. lack of a ball winer in midfield
    3. Total inability for our striker to score

why these guys have not had a look in.
