Is it only me or....

.... the circumstances surrounding the suicide of this nurse as a result of the 'hoax' call, whilst very tragic, is surreal?

I find it hard to believe that a mother of two, an experienced nurse, who deals with life and death situations on a regular basis would take her own life simply for being taken in by a call put through from the switchboard, late at night, particularly as there is no evidence she revealed any more details about Kate's condition than was already in the public domain.

Now I am in no way saying there is anything sinister here, but surely this woman must have had other issues weighing on her mind that led to this inexplicable act. It is said that in her culture and family, 'honour' was a driving force, but even that seems extreme given that she appears to have a supportive family and two young children. Neither was there any evidence of disciplinary measures being taken by the hospital.

I find it strange that nothing has been mentioned in the media along those lines and everything has revolved around the castigating of the two DJ's who could not have envisaged even getting any confidential information when they called never mind the resulting death of the person they duped. Whilst it was a pretty juvenile prank my sympathy is with them as no-one could have foreseen the tragic consequences. A form of public hysteria seems to have occurred (again!!) like we have increasingly seen over the past few years to the extent the DJs have received death threats! For what??

 

I would not be at all surprised to find that this call had hardly any influence on her decision to commit suicide. The palace said they weren't angry with the hospital, kate said she wasn't, the hospital management didn't blame her, nobody really knew her name outside of the hospital. I don't believe it was the reason, though I believe the family will understandably try to lead people into believing it is the sole reason in order that 'dirty laundry' and personal issues are not aired in public.

 

Posted a shortened version of this on Facebook last night. Most people that replied/liked agreed but one or two didn't. I certainly agree with you.

i posted about this on the day and felt simular to you.
although my thoughts are with this nurses family i feel the two dj's are being lynched.
i do not agree with these hoax calls but realise some audiences like them each to their own.i also do not believe for one minute that these two dj's are evil like some people are actually making out, its unbelievable the hysteria going on around this incident, in fact one phone call to radio wanted them obliterating from civilisation saying they should be blacklisted and never to work again dj's or otherwise. unbelievable.
i was outraged when that footballer killed those children through drink/driving and stated he should never play prof football again as he could have been flaunted on tv/papers etc in front of this poor family but i didn't say he shouldn't work elsewhere for a living and he was directly involved in their deaths whereas these two dj's were not.
just think a bit of perspective is needed here because how the media are portraying this i'd be worried about the dj's state of mind tbh.

So how do you propose to find out that which you will not be surprised to find? How many times have you had to face such situations that have informed your expert insight? Not the deepest of thinkers are we, Super?

This is a post with which I find the greatest empathy.

If I knew how to "like" it, I would.

Perhaps the DJs should do the honourable thing and throw themselves out of the penthouse of a high rise hotel.

Then we can follow the chain along and blame their deaths on whoever it seems fits the bill.

These DJs have received far greater vilification already than the poor nurse who sadly didn't seem plugged in to modern life and all it's traps and horrors.

Or maybe thousands die during the making of Candid Camera. Or afterwards. And nobody tells us.

 

I agree I think we have all made crank calls and been on the receiving end don't think we should be hammering these djs although it was tragic news about the nurse and her death and you feel for her kids and her family the press need to lay off the 2 individuals
