Unbelievable. I was a 14 year old kid in awe of all the grown men in tears stood around me. I never came to a Barnsley game until I was 11, I came to the club through a step parent - in fact until that day I toyed with also being a Liverpool supporter like my dad (the games the following season soon put end to that nonsense). But even as a bit of a Jonny come lately, the hugeness of that day wasn't lost on me. I was in the ponty end sucking in Wilkos header, and nearly got shoved to the bottom of the stand in excitement when Clint scored. All the extra folk they let in the west stand at the end, the raw emotions. 20 flaming years ago. Dear me. It could happen again, but it won't be like that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Much the same as me some 20 years earlier when we came up from the 4th. Much is said about prices and offers attracting new fans , but you can't beat success and excitement to get the young uns hooked. Back in the day we had 2 promotions in 3 seasons, and in the late 90s almost did the same again. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
My lad is 9, been bringing him a few years on and off. Don't have st anymore as I work permanent evenings so can't get to night games, isn't worth it. Get to as many home Saturday games as I can - don't tend to miss many. Get away when we can, usually decided on the morning so not generally when it's all ticket. But in the subject of hooking the kids... After two Wembley visits last year he is hooked I hope, (we missed his younger sisters birthday party for the jpt final) though I suspect a couple of quiet years might make him support whoever his mates at school are!! We live in donny so it would be them, weeds, either Sheffield club, either Manchester, Chelsea, probably spurs. Fickle are the young uns. I'll just keep fetching him to the well. I'm not from Barnsley or ever lived there, as I say the club was sold to me via a step parent. Who was from wakey - but still. The older of my daughters might be tempted soon. I've just got to convince her. Good season next year and I'll even bring the two year old too Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Same here. I've always lived in West Yorkshire. All my barnsley supporting mates back then were from Hemsworth. Barnsley is our closest professional football club regardless of whether it's in South or West Yorkshire or not, and I think it strange that so many travel to leeds to watch that shower. Bit different for me in donny, didn't make much odds when they were non league and we were championship or whatever but that changed! The post that the club has put on Facebook has had a bloke tagged by his mate saying 'remember when you were a Barnsley fan?' Being nosey I had a look, he's covered in Leeds tattoos. When I was a kid, 80% of kids at school were Man Utd fans, no donny at all really, and a few Leeds, wendies and liverpool Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
