Where we read season previes that to a man say we'll struggle and that we'll finish in the bootm six, then we all scoff and talk about "research" and how they don't have a f*cking clue and it's all "lazy" journalism. Then we settle down to watch another season of struggle where we finish in the bottom six. Seriously - what do you want people to say in previews?
I find it annoying, especially as we've constantly been on the fringe of the play-offs since we got back to the Championship.
Totally agree. I'd struggle to write a pre-season preview on Barnsley's 2013/14 campaign and I've been to nearly every friendly and follow things pretty feckin closely. Any preview should be taken with a pinch of salt as they're totally guessing. I saw a few last year that had wolves nailed on for promotion. Oh aye
That's about the size of it. If I was outside looking in I'd have Barnsley down for another bottom 6 finish. Even on the inside looking out, I've had us down for a bottom six finish every year since we've been back in the Championship. To be honest, when I've looked at the squad each summer, I've thought relegation was well on the cards, with the possible exception of Robins' full season in charge. I'm hoping it will be better this season, I genuinely think it could be, but I wouldn't blame anyone who is not close to the club for predicting another season of struggle.
So you are saying that these prediction things aren't set in stone and that they are in fact predictions made up by someone who lives in London and has no idea who John Cofie and M'Voto is? Well what a load of ******** that is. I don't know why I have read them for so long. This is the main reason I don't buy a season ticket.
Not got an issue with them predicting another struggle. My issue is the piss poor standard of effort and research. Anybody claiming that Cywka or Scotland are our key players hasn't even had the sense to watch our 20 seconds FLS coverage. But I agree with the rest of your post. I too would have us down as bottom feeders, because that's where we've finished for 7 years.
It's to be expected Taking into account our finishing positions since winning promotion back to the Championship. The majority of our fans may be optimistic that the coming season heralds a return to better times, but I wouldn't expect supporters from other clubs, or so called experts, to share that optimism. Personally, I couldn't care less what they think anyway. It'll have no bearing on us at all. Unless, of course, the managers and players from the other clubs share those views and approach games against us showing little, or no, respect.
